Hey guys, I'm relatively out of the loop on new hardware as I'm too damn poor to do to much with it. I have been asked to build a gaming PC for my cousin though, and he's got around $600 to spend, after shipping.

He has:
Case
PSU
Monitor
KB/Mouse
Speakers

Basically I'm looking for:
CPU/Mobo, Graphics Card, HSF, HD, Optical, and memory

Can a decent system be had for around $600? Doesn't have to be screaming, doesn't have to have bells and whistles, this will be his first computer.

Thanks guys!

It certainly could be done. I'd be curious what PSU he has. Anything higher than a "low-end" system shouldn't be run on a generic, no-name PSU.

Yes it can be done go for athlon socket AM2 so it is upgradeable, 1 gig of ram, uhm a radeon x1600, a small hard drive and a dvd unit. Youll need to spend the whole 600 i think. The PSU question is a good one, because if it malfunctions you are risking the MB or the processor, it happened to me with a shitty PSU about 3 years ago. That would certainly restraint your budget.
