Help with BSODs

Not sure really where to put this, so I'll try here:

I’m running XP, and my computer likes to crash while I play games. It usually goes to a BSOD along with a “memory could not be read error” or an error referencing the nv4_disp.dll. I got new memory in December hoping to fix the problems, but it did not help. I have tried many different forceware versions, and all of my other hardware is up to date, but nothing has fixed my problem.

The crashes are completely random. Rarely do I experience a crash after only a few minutes, but usually I can play a game for anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours. Crashes like this happen while I play Swat 4, Guild Wars, and Warcraft 3. But, I have been playing Call of Duty a lot recently, and it has never once crashed. Doom 3 has also never experienced a crash.

Here are a few key things I have noticed while trying to solve my crashing problem.
1.) The only time I have experienced BSODs are while 3D gaming, reconstructing a large group of files using par2, and oddly enough running Adaware (does it everytime, except today while I was trying to get my computer to BSOD).
2.) Memtest passes after running all night.
3.) My computer randomly minimizes the games without myself executing an alt+tab. (haven’t noticed during Doom 3 and maybe once during CoD)
4.) MBM5 reports my CPU temp to idle at 43 but only increase to 46 under load.
5.) There is no degradation in fps, quality, etc before a crash.
6.) I also get BSOD while exiting 3D games that seem to be running smoothly.

Recently I found this thread, http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=821634&highlight=memory+could+not+be+read and the problem sounds very similar to mine except I don’t OC. While I did occasionally have this problems before I got my 6800GT, the problem seemed to worsen once I installed the new card back in August!! However, I don’t think this is a video card problem since I get good framerates and good visuals all the time, with the random exception of the little line rendering bugs from time to time, mostly seen in HL2.

I would also like to mention that I have a friend who got his computer at the same time I did, and they are nearly identical except he went ATI and I went Nvidia. He has had zero problems. I have some AS3, but the CPU and heatsink are running using the factory wax. I am probably going to apply some AS3 and hope it can fix me up, but what else can I do? Anyone have any ideas? Please help!

All that with just a 350w psu?? i bet thats the problem :(

I have thought about the PSU, but last I checked my voltages seemed fine. I have disconnected two of my optical drives already, but it hasn't helped.

when you installed new video card drivers...you completly removed the previous drivers before putting in the new ones? at least one of the errors states your video driver or a referenced video driver file

Whenever I install new video drivers, I uninstall the old ones, reboot to safe mode and run driver cleaner, reboot back into windows and install the drivers, then reboot once more. If I remember correctly, there was one driver that I installed which never gave me a nv4_disp.dll error reference even though I still got BSODs without the error message.

Also in the past day or so I have noticed that the crashing is occurring much more consistently after only 20 minutes of play or so. I checked my 6800GT temps last night for the first time in a while and noticed that they were idling around 63 and were at 78 underload!

With the exception of the temp bugged drivers, my card usually idles around 56 and is up to 68 or so under load. Its running at 60 atm. I have the side of my case open, but I guess the summer weather is making it warmer than normal.

Also, I ran rthdribl 1.2 all last night. Not sure what to think though since it was minimized when I woke up this morning and the GPU temps were down to 60.

Posting the STOP: code and any other information from the BSOD would be very helpful.

You could probably google the STOP code and find your answer too.

The stop code reads:

Stop: 0x00000035 (0x894034B8, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I hope this can help. I have to run so I didn't write down every single thing on the blue screen. I'll see what else there is later.I think it mentioned something about being out of stack space, maybe.

Things to try based on the STOP code.

Reinstall the video card driver
Set the memory settings in your BIOS to failsafe, or default settings.
Update chipset drivers
reinstall direct x
Flash BIOS

I have tried all of those methods many times before, except for flashing my BIOS

On a whim, I decided to try disconnecting my USB mic since HL2 used to be unable to load while the it was connected. It seemed as though I was able to play for a much longer period than normal, but I still BSODed though I got a new stop code and a file reference I have never revceived before.

It read:

Stop: 0x0000007E and it referenced the kmixer.sys

This sounds like I could be onto something.
