I just bought an SSD for my OS and a program or two. In the past, during OS re-installations, I wouldn't really care about backing up anything aside from music and photos. I would basically just wipe everything and go about re-installing programs little by little.
This time around, I have more programs than usual and don't really care to re-install everything after installing the OS to the SSD. On top of that, it may be hard finding certain things to re-download. Just some information, only the OS will be on this SSD and a couple of programs. Everything else will remain on the HDD. It's a 180 gb ssd.
So I guess I have a couple questions in short.
1) What are my options as far as installing the OS on this SSD while keeping all my programs?
2) I have heard that it is good to completely wipe your HDD every once in a while for performance reasons? Correct?
3) Would the following be my best option? Back up all of my computer (aside form my OS), do an HDD reformat, install the OS to the SSD, and finally transfer the back up onto my hard drive. Any major downside to doing this versus doing a clean wipe and just re-installing all the programs from scratch?
4) Anything specific I should avoid backing up?
