I would like to get it at 2.5GHz if possible. Runs no higher than 45c on load at 2GHz and at 2.1GHz it got up to 47C load. I can get it to 2.15GHz but any higher than that and my system locks up.

any suggestions from anyone out there? im on a GA-M57SLI-S4.

Also im using Easy Tune 5 (Came with my motherboard).

Dont use windows based overclocking programs.

Go into your bios and do it there.

For AMD systems you want to do these things.

Up your voltage to 1.5v. On that chip that voltage should be fine, but make sure after the voltage change your load temps stay under 65c.

Set a PCI-E AGP lock, hopefully your board has this, and this will keep your AGP and PCI/PCI-E from being overclocked as well (no sense in overclocking your hard drives :D)

Set a ram divider lower then it is now. As you overclock your FSB (front side bus) you are also overclocking your ram, most ram cant overclock much higher then default clocks, and this is where most overclock fails. By setting a lower divder, your ram will run at say 800 mhz at a 280 FSB, instread of 800 mhz @ 200 mhz :)

also bump your HT and LTD voltages a bit. like an extra .10 to .30 depending.

Thank you for the reply Xenozx. I will try some of those suggestion and report back with the results.
Would raising the FSB which is speeding up my ram be causing the lockups when i go higher?

possibly, depends on your ram, if it's DDR 500 (PC4000) than you can push the FSB to 250, with the memory divider at 1:1 and you're set. Check your memory timings to be safe.

BTW 1.5v is going to raise temps quite a bit, try it, it's safe, but once you hit a stable 2.5Ghz OC, try to throttle down the volts and do some overnight Prime/etc stability testing on each volt drop.

You might want to try using RightMark CPU utility for this, it's got control of CPU divider and CPU voltage.

Good luck. BTW x2x3800 @ 2.5Ghz OC @1.4v in a small Shuttle SN25P case

Ok, so i went in and upped the voltage to 1.45v and the CPU Frequency to 250MHz and left the multiplier at 10. When i started back up it gave me a message saying the frequency is too high and i pressed F1(Continue start-up) and once it was fully started the Frequency was back to 200MHz but the voltage stayed at 1.45v.
I'm going to attempt a lower scale OC with default 1.3v and report back.

Oh, ya, check the HT multiplier, default should be on AUTO or 5X

Clock that down to 4X.

You want the HT to be at 1000Mhz or less, 200x5=1000 or 250x4=1000. Cool.
That's probably what that was, also, the mobo may complain about CPU frequency the first time, my Shuttle does that too.

Ok, I set the FSB to 230MHz with 10x multi. It did start up normaly and yes my ram is OC'ed now but everything seems to be running fine im runna Prime95 right now and no errors so far. Load temp got to 49C and no higher. I think i was expecting too much from this but 2.3GHz is fine for me on a stock 2GHz with pretty crappy Heatsink/Fan.

P.S.
My RAM is DDR2 800 with heatsinks. Currently running at 920.

Lol same motherboard as me. For my X2 4000 2.1ghz I dropped the DDR2 800 ram to 667 instead of the divider. First time overclock. Might have to try that too. The easytune 5 software isn't a good idea to use. Mine seems to be running really cool at 2.45ghz. (35 degrees under load). I haven't touched the voltages or anything though. Didn't really want to venture that far on my first time. Try dropping the ram divider as has been suggested. That is running rather hot though. No additional case fans or anything?

The thing is i have a crappy $13 low profile heatsink. The fan on the heatsink only runs at about 1200rpm max im going to get a new heatsink soon, so for now im good with 2.3GHz i may try for more once i get the new one but eventually im going to replace the processor with a stock 3.2GHz or higher if possible. I'm dealing with an adware problem right now.
