built a new system today that I'm having some trouble with. It powers up fine but when it does POST if detects the hard drive and dvd-rw, but it comes up with a message that says "overclocking failed! please enter setup to re-configure your system", but when I enter the BIOS I don't see anything wrong. All my parts seem to work fine too. Once I exit the BIOS it shows the motherboard logo and the Windows XP logo, and then nothing happens. I'm thinking its a problem in the bios because it keeps showing the error message. HELP!!!!!!!!!! I tried resetting cmos and no luck...upped the voltage on my ram as suggested on another forum.
Here are my specs:
Opteron 165
1 gig crucial ballistix
x1800xt pci-e
asus a8r-mvp mobo
620w enermax liberty
200gig ide maxtor

Feel free to pm me!!!

I would check the heat sink, You may want to consider taking the heat sink off cleaning the chip and the heat sink and reapply the thermal paste and mount the chip all over. Ive had chips that ran too hot and a similar over clocking error message was displayed

I would take the machine apart and try to post it out side of the case. I would only put the minimum parts needed for the machine to post. Have you checked to see if there is a case riser touching the mobo? Stupid things like that can cause strange problems. Every build I do I post the machine out side of the case before I finally assemble it.

I'll try that tomorrow....I've been fooling with this thing all day....It's gotten on my last nerve...I'll take any other suggestions as well.

I would suggest flashing the bios. Maybe revert back to a previous build. It could be that the bios you're using is either bugged because it's new, or an old bios. Check to see if there are some users from the motherboard manufacturor's forum community that suggest anything.
