help with a college all-in-one setup

hey, i think this should be the correct section to post this in.

I am a college student, and the key here is getting the same things to do as much as possible. I was wondering if a couple of solutions are even possible. my current computer setup has a hauppage pvr-150 in it and is using standard computer speakers, i have a 22" widescreen and a 17" standard monitors. the 150 delivers a decent picture, but there is a definite difference between the picture i receive on my computer and what displays on a regular tv, and i would like to be able to get the over the air HDTV stuff in the future. I also plan moving to a true full audio setup in the near future (reciever and a couple bookshelf speakers). I had a couple ideas of what i could do, but wasn't sure if they were possible, and so i was hoping some of you guys could help me out. i would really like to be able to use my computer and monitors as my whole entertainment system, and recieve good pictures from my tv.

if i bought something like a used comcast HD cable box off of ebay or something, even though i dont have comcast cable up at school, could i use the box just as a tv tuner. will it work without a comcast subscription, i dont want any of the on-demand movies or music channels and stuff. I just want to plug in a cable connection into the back of it and connect it to my monitor via hdmi to dvi cable, and recieve the standard cable tv channels. it would be nice if i could do this, because if i could get a dvr edition cable box i could still record tv shows on that and not take up space on my computer hard drive.

if that isn't possible, are there any external tv tuners that could accomplish that for me, at a reasonable price.

or would the best solution be to just get a new tuner card for my comp. do the current tv tuners deliver an image just a good as a standalone tv?

if you have any other ideas that might work better that would be great too.

any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

No, you can't.

Why external if you can clearly use a PCI card?

To make a long explaination short: The PVR150 is far to outdated to be recommended by anyone that actually knows a thing or two about PVR cards. Replacing it with a tuner based on ATI's 650 chip (which also supports ATSC tuning) is going to be a substantial upgrade in terms of video quality.

The only reason to get a PVR150 now is if you're running Linux/Myth. Other then that don't even bother with it.
