I need to know if a batch file can be written that will go through the steps to set up a wireless connection? Is this too complicated for a batch file? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
If the system is using Windows to manage the connection, you can probably use WMI in PowerShell or VBScript to configure a wireless connection. An alternative to programming is to use a keystroke/mouse automation program to record the sequence of steps for later playback.
What exactly are you trying to do? There may be a better solution to your problem.
Windows is managing the connection. I have about 60 laptops that I need to image with XP and roll out to users and I'm trying to automate the process as much as possible. Setting up the wireless connection is what seems to be slowing me down the most right now. Thanks for your help.
If the image is already made, it still may be easier to load that image up on a computer, add the wireless and then take a new image instead of trying to code a script to do the process for you.
If you didn't make the image yet, just set up the wireless in it.
why not just load a laptop with windows, and all of the applications installed already? set up the wireless network connection on the laptop, and then image it. Roll that image out to all of the other machines. When you fire them up for the first time, all you should have to do is plug in the windows key, activate it, and join the domain (if the last step is even necessary).
part of the problem is that with using sysprep on the image, is that we found that sysprep mangles the connection between the wireless nic and the profiles, especially if you use that image on multiple hardware models, with different nics.
