I had a BFG 9800GX2 in my machine running beautifully. Great card. Then I started to get a little annoyed by the noise it made when those fans start to spin up...it can get kind of loud. So, I decided to add it to my water cooling loop. I bought an EK-FC9800 water block for it (gorgeous water block, by the way, first rate craftmanship). Anyway, I took the card all apart and installed the waterblock. Now it doesn't work. I get no image, but my pc boots up. I can even here the little windows song play, just nothing on the monitor. I've tried both of the DVI ports...nothing. I know the pcie slot on my motherboard is good because I currently have an 8800 Ultra in there that is working just fine.
When you take the 9800GX2 apart, the two cards have two flexible pcie/sli ribbons that connect the two cards. They kind of 'snap' on to each card. Does anybody know if these have to go on in a certain direction (i.e. is there a 'right' way and a 'wrong' way to connect these? Can anyone think of anything else that might be going on? I have a brand new 800W Ultra X3 power supply, so that card is getting plenty of juice.
This is insanely frustrating, because I'm afraid BFG won't take this card for RMA now that I have disassembled it (even if I put it back together, they strategically placed one of the stickers right over one of the screws you have to unscrew to get it apart, so they are going to know that I at least took that screw out...).
Any ideas?
