Help with 7900gs issues

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 9200 with the Nvidia 7900gs. I have not overclocked it or anything.

The computer is running fine however for some serious issues that I feel are video card related. The computer frequently locks up during F.E.A.R, and any attempt to quit the game (when it's working) results in a flashing screen that does not stop until forced shut down. Also, while playing oblivion, I noticed some serious artifacting. I have kept the settings relatively low.

I also have problems playing extremely old school games, mainly the issue with when I quit the game, the screen will not stop flashing, freezes, crashes, etc.

Did I get a bad card? I have tried to update the drivers from the newest ones from nvidia's site but I get an error message and it wont let me install them. Something about the hardware not supporting the setup?

Any help is appreciated.

I just tried to play F.E.A.R again, it locked up hard, then I got a blue screen with this message:

Problem with the nv4_disp. Something something is stuck in an infinite loop.

I am running windows xp home with a core 2 duo and 7900gs. Any help appreciated.

Just tried to update the drivers, got this message: "could not locate any drivers compatible with your current hardware."

I'm actually getting the EXACT same problem with FEAR you are. I have a Dimension 9200 and a 7900GS setup.

Have you had any luck to your problem?

I only have 2 games, the other being Company of Heroes, and that one runs fine.

I really want to try to avoid that, unless i'm almost sure it's a hardware problem. Last time I called them it was 2hr lesson in computer 101. He had me reboot and try again.

Hoping for someone with similar experience and a fix.

I have a 7900gs and it plays fear no problem. It definitlly sounds like a hardware problem.

Having the same problem with another system running a 7900gs...says "could not locate any drivers compatible with your current hardware." when trying to upgrade...any ideas for the folks suffering from this?

Okay, sounds like it may be hardware afterall.. haha.

Dug around some more on the Dell forums and a number of people had their cards replaced and everything runs fine now. One person also says to he got it fixed by flashing the mobo with an update, but got the card replaced anyways.

As for the driver incompatibility issue, I actually only got that with the 91.31 driver update. 91.47 worked fine for me. Make sure you're d/l'ing that one.
