I'm trying to set up a new machine for a friend. It has an ASUS motherboard with integrated ATI graphics. We're dropping in a GeForce 7600 GS and trying to get all this to work under Vista. Here's the problem....

With the 7600 installed, Vista refuses to recognize any display device whatsoever. Take out the card and it sees the ATI chipset just fine. Put the 7600 in another machine and it works fine. So am I running into some kind of IRQ conflict here? The BIOS doesn't have any option to disable the integrated video. Ideas?

make sure in the bios that the add in video card is set as the primary display adapter.

yeah that sounds like the problem, had that problem with an older system. look for a way to disable it or set the display adapter like the previous poster said

I verified that the add-in card is the primary. I'm starting to think that Vista is just too dumb to recognize this particular configuration. If anyone else has any ideas, let me know. Otherwise, I'm going to install XP and see if it's any smarter. :D

Turns out this mobo, an ASUS M2A-VM, doesn't play nice with NVidia cards with the earlier bios versions. I updated to the latest and it's working now, in case anyone else runs into this. :D

Thanks for the tips, though!
