alright im able to egt 75hz, but when i open up my games, it goes back to 60hz plz help

I don't really know how to help. I run all my games at native res and they all seem to stay at 75hz, and my settings are exactly the same as yours

Using vista 32-bit if that helps

Try some refresh locker program. They were very handy in CRT days.

Some games allow you to change your refresh rate. Check the video settings in the games that go back to 60.

I was able to get 75hz on ATI card using PowerStrip and setting custom timings as suggested by someone on the other 2209wa thread. Games can run at 75hz as well. Monitor says 77hz.

Does anyone know if 2209wa does 75hz without custom timings if a dual-link DVI cable is used? It shipped with a single-link DVI cable. =/

All dual-link does is double the bandwidth of the cable.

1680x1050 @ 60Hz x 24 bits per pixel = 2.54 Gbits/sec
1680x1050 @ 75Hz x 24 bits per pixel = 3.16 Gbits/sec
Single-link DVI maximum speed = 3.96 Gbit/s

Dual-link is not necessary for 1680x1050 @ 75Hz.

ahh old memories.

Now that we are moving to 120Hz monitors, I believe they will be very handy once again. :) Unless games have smartened a bit to notice its their native refresh rate of course...

No, not the refreshforce, but the refreshlock. Sorry, I linked to wrong section of the site. But seems like the old Refreshlock download link is dead... Too bad, I used that program a lot.

Not sure, but doesnt Powerstrip also have some sort of refresh locking feature?

Here.

I heard it might need some tinkering to use in Vista, like running it as admin. Also you cannot set it to Run Program On Start-up as it loses its settings for some reason. You have to start it manually. Also for some this program works, for some it doesnt.

Here is a big thread dedicated for this refresh rate issue. Damn this Vista.

*edit* More tips in the second last post of that thread:

Hi,

Just for the record: I can confirm that RefreshLock v2.21 works in my case. I can play at 1024x768 at 100 Hz.

My hardware specs (only the relevant ones):
Graphics card: Geforce 8600GT
CRT monitor: Dell M993s

Software specs:
Windows Vista x64 with SP1 installed.
nVidia geforce drivers version 7.15.11.7824 (I assume newer versions will also work, haven't had time to update, sorry)
RefreshLock v2.21

What I did was to uncheck the box "always use the fastest safe frequency for mode" and instead I manually selected my preferred frequency (100 Hz is best for my monitor) on the desired resolutions at 8bpp, 16bpp and 32bpp modes. Also, in Advanced Settings, in the "Timing" tab, I unchecked the box called "Allocate some small CPU time to enforcing modes". Afterwards I engaged the RefreshLock and launched the game.

thanks but it doesnt seem to work...

Then Powerstrip is probaply your only option. Cant think of anything else. This seem like a common Vista issue. Keep looking around Google with Vista Refresh Locking as keywords, perhaps more hints or programs can be found. Im off to sleep.

Would someone mind posting exactly what they did in PowerStrip to get 75hz working with their ATi card? I tried the suggested settings posted by ToastyX (for nVidia cards) but couldn't get them to stick.

Having similar problems. Powerstrip seems to refuse to keep the settings entered as per ToastyX's recommendation. (XP 64 SP2).

Try checking the box for "Allow modes not exposed by the display"

Also, Toasty's manual settings:

Horizontal front porch: 48
Active horizontal pixels: 1680
Horizontal total: 1840
Horizontal sync width: 32
Horizontal sync polarity: -

I have this working quite well with my 9600GT (other specs in sig). Couldn't get it working with my HD4870, though.
Vertical front porch: 3
Active vertical lines: 1050
Vertical total: 1087
Vertical sync width: 6
Vertical sync polarity: +

My question is why would you want to run at refresh other than naitive?

Some of us can tell the difference between 60Hz and 75Hz gaming, especially for snappy FPSs like Counter-Strike Source. I set my 2209WA at 75Hz (because it can ;)) and I haven't looked back since. I'm contemplating selling my 2407WFP A04 and picking up another 2209WA. :)

You get smoother motion. For gaming, you want as high as possible. For video, you want a multiple of the frame rate. 72 Hz is ideal for 24 FPS movies.

Even with normal desktop use, the mouse cursor is smoother, moving windows around is smoother, and animations that aren't locked to a particular frame rate are smoother, but not everyone is sensitive to that.

I'm not sure why some people are having trouble. The timings should work with any video card, but it seems some software combinations are placing artificial limitations that won't allow it to happen.

I see, well I want two more for a poor man's eyefinity lol

I had the same problem with my HD4870. Using the following settings from 10e's post however let me get 76hz working.

I can't get an ATI 4770 to run at 1680x1050@75hz in Vista or Windows 7. In Vista 1280x800@75hz works, but in Windows 7 the graphics driver forces internal scaling and sends 1280x1024@75hz to the monitor. Powerstrip doesn't work at all in Windows 7 for me.

75hz is a big improvement for fps games and makes them ALMOST playable (even at 1280x800 with input lag), but still doesn't compare with a CRT.

Has anyone had any success getting the 2209wa to run at 75hz in Linux? Thanks.
