help with 2005fpw backlight issue (pics)

I just got my 2005FPW and the overall 1st impression was good. Great color,brightness, detail and no dead pixels. I definately have a backlight issue. I'm not sure if I should stress over it or not. If it's at all possible, I want a perfect panel. I took some pics so I could get some feedback. I removed the pics from the camera on a different system with a 712n monitor. Now the problem gets worse. I moved the pics over to my 2005fpw system and I can't see any backlighting issues on the photos, just a black blur so the 712n displays dark images with much more detail. Please take a look. Any feedback and andvice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

IMO not too bad. You really can't even see it with your naked eye and the camera picture makes it look worst than it really is. But its your money, do what you want if you aren't happy with it.
 
maybe it's the pics but it looks more severe in person and just as bad on the 712N. If I were to evaluate my pics as viewed on th 2005FPW, everything looks black and there appears to be no issue. BTW, I used an app called Dead Pixel Buddy (black)
 
Not bad at all you should consider keeping it, mine is AWFUL and on two corners.
 
That looks pretty even to me. I'd be happy with that compared to some of the horror stories I've seen posted.
 
dumb question but i've had mine for about a month now and I can't tell if i have a backlight issue or not. Sorry to hijack but what exactly should I be looking for? It looks fine to me so i'd laugh if i have it but i consider it normal.

A backlight issue would be if his picture was extremely splotchy and had strange bright spots and dark spots where the backlight is unevenly providing light.
 
Who the hell do I call at dell to deal with my 2005fpw backlighting.


I can't get past their voice system.
 
OK...sorry if I'm a little slow :) So the white grey/haze showing on a black background is normal as long as it's fairly consistant?

Yep, that's just an inherent part of standard LCD flat panels. The big bright backlight is always turned on behind the panel, and the crystals cannot block 100% of the light, so it gives you hazy milky blacks. Usually you don't notice so much unless you're looking at a black picture in a dark room.

New flat panel technologies coming out in a year, year and a half or so, such as SED and OLED, eliminate this problem.
 
i checked my monitor while using winxp screen saver and can see some back light bleeding comming from the bottom the top is nice and perfect, but bottom right is bleeding through in a diagnol.. dont know i'll ask dell about this sort of issue.
 
I just unboxed and set mine up and it looks a lot worse than that. 0 dead pixels which I am happy about, a little graney and the bleeding are my only issues. But my backlighting protrudes almost into the middle portions, I will give it a day or two, but will probabally return it, doesnt have to be perfect black but a lot less backlight would be nice.
 
Yeah, that screen actually looks pretty good. You know you have a problem when parts of the screen are significantly brighter than others, usually around the edges.

granted, the camera makes it seem a lot brighter than it really is in real life, but its still pretty bad. in real life the upper left has just a slight amount of backlight bleeding but you can't hardly tell.

Mines about the same, About that same brightness as in that photo.
 
I jumped the gun prior to all this feedabck (much appreciated) & ordered a replacement. I have since cancelled the replacement but I have yet to receive a reply to my email so they may ship it out anyways. If they do ship it, at least I can compare the two....

Has anyone found a way to open 2005fpw? I'm suffering from the backlight issue as well (with revision A02 October display) and wonder if it could be fixed by moving the lights inside? I have noticed that if I twist the corner of the display with force, the light problem goes away but sadly returns again when I stop twisting.

i was wondering about this as well...it would seem that moveing the lights slightly should fix some of the problem... if your twisting moves the edge ot the screen say 1/8" then it may only be moveing the bulb 1/4mm on the inside, but that may be more than enought to make it line up like it should, something a simple piece of paper in the right place will fix

opening your LCD will certainly void your warranty


just keep having dell replace them, its free and you don't lose the usage of the LCD while they're doing it since they send a replacement and you send yours back in the same box.

I want to clarify that October is not the problem. I bought (and returned) mine in September with problems, and there was a huge thread at another site (anandtech?) about how the 2005fpw had problems in August and before. In fact, if you do a Google search, you will see that the 2005fpw had backlight bleeding problems even in the A00 versions. Everytime there is a major sale (once every three months or so), a thread like this pops up, then dies back down again. Each time, there has been less and less complaining, probably because people have either accepted the truth or have decided it really doesn't bother them that much.
 
I have to vent for a minute here

I think most people's "backlight bleeding" issues are psychosemetic. They see backlightbleeding backlightbleeding all over the place and instantly shutter at the sight of their not pitch black lcd monitor. Stop diagnosing everything as backlight bleeding. LCD technology has 350:1->1500:1 contrast ratio for a reason. ITS NOT PURE BLACK. Plasma's 10,000:1 is still no where near pitch black, additionally, the backlight can NOT turn off when absolute black is suppose to be displayed. ALL LCDs WILL GIVE OFF LIGHT EVEN WHEN ALL BLACK IS DISPLAYED. This is normal. So the term "bleeding", well it's always going to bleed! If it bleeds very obviously only in a few places, that's a bad backlight, maybe the intended backlight behaviour for the pannel, but a poor quality one. Doesn't mean a replacement is the answer. That backlight pic you posted looks soooo uniform and dark. What are you expecting?!?!

Looks good...mine is a little better but barely...as for the last few posts, the backlighting is horrible (from posts)...
