hey guys, first time posting here... i know i can count on u guys to help me sort thru this problem.

about 30 minutes ago i decided it was time to update my nvidia drivers, i d/l the newest off the nvidia website and proceeded to delete my old ones. I went into video settings, then to the forceware screen, proceeded to delete the driver, everything went smooth, and it prompted me to restart in order to complete the process.. i did, and after the windows xp logo loaded the screen just stays black, and nothing loads, when i try to push buttons on the keyboard, it just beeps..

i havent changed any of the bios settings and it wont let me boot into any form of safemode, i tried reseating everything on the motherboard (didnt know what else to try), i even popped in my old gf3 to see if it was a gfx card problem, didnt work. im clueless and any advice would be appreciated.

specs:
Athlon64 3200+ not Oc'd
Asus k8v deluxe
1 gig corsair xms3200 c2pro (2x512)
gainward geforce fx 5950U golden sample (factory oc'd to 500/1000)
2x 120 gig seagate SATA drives (Raid-1)
audigy 2 zs platinum

thanks in advance guys

Boot into safe mode and install your video drivers from there.

Whoops, missed that on the first glance.
Check your BIOS and make sure where you have your video settings. Make sure it's not display PCI first or some crap like that.

i checked, couldnt find anything of that sort in the video settings...ive never had this problem and the fact that it wont even let me boot into safe mode scares me a bit..

There's an option in the BIOS somewhere for that, there always is.

well theres an option for "primary graphics controller" and its set to AGP, so thats fine

Well damn, just boot up and walk away from your computer for about 5 minutes, take a dump or something. Sometimes it just takes longer to boot up. :lost:

heh, thanks anyway bro...well maybe another tidbit of info, when i try to boot in safemode, it starts loading all the basic drivers and just freezes, and reboots.

Wish I had known that sooner. Something else is messed up more than just a video card driver. Have you tried booting into last known good configuration?

yea, i tried..only to have the same thing happen...my comp is fairly new, and never had any issues, this is really random for something to go sooo wrong

Well how good are your backups, because it looks like you might have to start over, or at least do a repair.

Files that you want to keep, porn, mp3s, porn, pictures, and porn. :D

i never thought ied actually need to save stuff on disks cause of my raid-1 config, lets asume i needed to reformat, anyway i can reformat on 1 drive and then extract the files from the old one, or just instal windows over the copy that i have..ive done it before and it fixed previous problems

You could try doing a repair to see if that helps, but installing windows over windows without a clean reformat is like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound. It might staunch the flow of blood for a while, but eventually you're going to get overwhelmed.

i think i have my little battle plan for attacking this problem, ill just reinstall windows over windows for now, just so i can access my files and such...ill make backups of all the mp3's, porn, games, porn, and files that i wanna save... and tomorrow then ill reformat

well i solved it, just incase any of you are interested in what the problem was, here it is:

when i deleted the drivers, because i had coolbits installed and it had the gfx card clocked at a certain rate, when it was deleted and the comp was immidiately restarted apparently messed around with the clock settings and i guess one thing lead to another and thats what caused everything, thank you tim for ure help, i am very thankful!

Sorry, I read some of your symptoms and not the rest of the post. My friends comp was working fine until one day after trying to install a program it wouldn't boot to windows. It did what you described with the safe mode freezing etc... It turned out his memory went bad in the end.

Edit: Well good thing it wasn't your ram :D
