currently i have a athlonxp 2400+ at 2Ghz and a 9700 pro. I really want to be able to play Oblivion decently and I've eyed three cards within my price range (under 200 CAD). So which would be the better card, the x800 pro (may be over 200?), the x1600 pro, or the 6600gt?

will they make a huge difference from the 9700 pro?

Thanks for the help guys!!!

id say if you willing to overclock and unlock get the X800gto2 and unlock it and its >$160
so you can spend the other 40 on a ati slincer to keep the card nice and cool

I agree with the above. Make sure you get the one with the red pcb and PCI-E power slot in the back, or else it's going to be an x800xl core and not a x850xt pe. Btw, all the new x800gto2s come pre unlocked, so no dangerous bios flashing necessary.

very nice mrbay i just wished i didnt buy my card when i did i bought a x800gt witch = no unlocking 420 core but i am able to overclock it alot i went from 475core to 560 and 490mem to 560 and temps are very low stock voltz but i wished i would of gotten a gto2 but no one knew of its unlocking ablilities but i guess its my fault for not waiting

I do believe the person who started this thread is looking for an AGP card......not a PCI-E card. If I am correct here.............this card should fill your needs.

yep, AGP only

so which would be better, a x800GTO or a x1600pro?

The X800GTO is actually the better card. Look at the reviews of the two cards on newegg and pay close attention to what kind of 3DMarkXX scores people are posting, as well as FPS numbers.

ok, i found a great deal on a 6800gs, i know this is the ATI forum, but on my system, xp2400+, would there be a difference between a x1600pro or a 6800 gs? Also i have a 350w PS, is it enough for the 6800gs?

Thanks for the help!
