HELP w/ Antec Lanboy Cooling

I have to improve the cooling on my Antec LANboy. My CPU (not oc'd) runs at about 54 C after about a 1/2 hour of use. I have an 80mm exhaust fan and stock heat sink/fan. I'm thinking of dremmeling the top of the case and adding a 120 mm exhaust fan. Anyone know of any good fans or any more suggestions, such as more fans etc, lemme know. I was thinking of getting a new heatsink/fan but im not sure if that'll be necessary (I heard that you can OC an XP 2500+ to 3200 with the stock cooling system). Help please!

do you have fans in the 2 fan bays it comes with ?

i'm assuming you do.

No...I only have the exhaust fan....I was told that intake fans are pointless....I was considering buying one in addition to the large fan for the top of the case

who told you intake fans are pointless?

how do you think cool air from the outside gets into your case...

put a intake in there and then post your new temps..

i just moved out of my lan boy for this very reason. too hot! i put a blow hole on the top as exhaust... i was running 3 Tt Smart Case Fan II's... they where where all on high (72.5cfm) ... one in and two out...my cpu has one on it... (volcano 11+) and it was still so dang hot....now i'm in an xspider II, same hardware is 10 degrees cooler 30 minutes into doomIII.

with that said, to stick with your lanboy... easy, quick way to cool that thing down is to make sure your running a blow hold in the top and i'd have one put in your side pannel... top and back blow out, side pannel in, and front blowing in. 36cfm min for all fans.

Dude, whoever told you intake was useless is a fucking moron. Put that 120mm fan intake and watch your temps drop insanely.

A 120 blowhole will help any case, but, really, there's no helping the Lanboy. Doing that is also going to kill the option to use the top drive bay, should you ever decide to.

I had one for about... a year... and the overall build quality was crap for an Antec, it's flimsy, not especially lightweight, the window looks like garbage, and I think a K6/2 would get too hot in there... The HDDs and fan configurations, and short depth requirements of 5 1/4 bays just doesn't do it for me. Cable management is a pain in the ass. You can detach the other side and make that easier if you don't mind drilling out the rivets.

Oh, and it's LOUD. Everything rattles. Every extra fan you put in there is just going to make it worse.

I'd keep your PSU and instead of dropping cash on new fans (or work - time = $$) buy a new case that will accomodate larger, slower fans.

Just my .02 cents. Not trying to flame your purchase decision, or your case, but I really haven't met anyone who's been happy with one yet.

So the general consensus is that I should put a blow hole in the top and the side and have an intake fan? How should I go about putting a blow hole in the side though...I have a glass window and my mobo is on the other wall. Is that the kind of glass that I can cut? And also would a new chip fan/heat sink combo do help? Or should I just go get a new case period?

I intend to, i want to know what additional mods I should make. So far I'm thinking of putting 2 additional blow holes in my case and filling them with 120mm fans (found some great stuff on pricewatch.com)

I modded mine, 120mm intake and 92mm exhaust and a 120mm blowhole. I'm of the opinion that nothing helps temps (and the other problems) much other then watercooling it.

With that said I still have the case, it's sitting in pieces waiting for me to finish rebuilding it after totally overhauling it and modding.

Did you mod the side of your case as well? I have a window, but i think it's plexi glass, are you able to cut through the side of that window without it breaking? Also, does anyone have any idea where to go for instructions on dremmeling the lanboy?

I ditched the windowed side panel for the solid one, I believe they used rivets to attach the window so you could just drill them out.

adding blow holes will not help you, you wont do shit if you put in holes to pull air out, when you dont have any air to pull out, if you put in an exaust fan, you should put in an intake fan

put in the intake fan, and tell us what your temps are b4 you cut the shit out of your case, adding a low side intake, and a high side or top exause will alwase help case cooling but just adding the top hole wont help as much.

So I should just buy and intake and cut a low side exhaust? I'm also gonna get a new heat sink....suggestions on good brands?

I had a lanboy, and it had the highest temps I ever had in a case. When I added a front fan, temps actually increased. One thing I did try that actually worked was taping up the intake holes on the side and front (not over the 92mm intake fan) of the power supply (I assume that you are still using the antec 350) For some reason the 92mm power supply fan actually blows hot air into the case (at least with mine) through those vents without ever being sucked out by the exhaust fan. My power supply temps were just fine, and case case temps dropped.

definantly put in an intake fan and post your new temps. another blowhole might not even be necessary after putting in your intake.
