I've got an issue with my 4870x2.
It's cooled with a DD waterblock. Everything was working fine until I moved to a new house. I think the movers were a little too rough with it.

Basically the screen is corrupted at startup, so it's definitely not a software problem. If I lift up on the edge of the card at startup, and continue to hold, everything works great. But as soon as I let go, the graphics on screen are immediately corrupted. And the corruption immediately goes away when I lift up on the card again.

I disassembled the loop and re tightened all the screws, so I know everything is pretty tight. Three red lights flash, none stay on.

Ideas?

It might be a pain in the butt, but doing a fresh remount of the waterblock would probably be best. It sounds like something is definitely loose or not making proper contact anymore.

With that much flex in the PCB it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think that a trace snapped but will make contact when the board is supported properly.

Yeah, I guess you're right about remounting it. I really don't want to do that, but, I don't see any other option. What a pain. At least if I can't get it to work I can try claiming it on insurance from the move. Those things are expensive.

I have a 5970 with the DD FC block. As soon as I got the card in, the weight of the card scared me. I use a piece of plastic from another case to keep the card level. It may be a bit ghetto but it works very well and it helps me sleep better at night. Im planning on crafting some kind of retention arm that can do a proper job. But for now.. wth.
