I've got an AMD 3800 X2 on ABIT A8N Ultra mobo, XP-120 hs, and a gig of corsair xms3200 ram. However, At 2500 I get CPU temps of over 50 degrees C and need a BIOS voltage of 1.525 V.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just the upper limit of my overclock? I've been told that I shouldn't run my CPU at temps higher than 50 degrees C.

I've been considering the posibility that I misapplied my Artic Silver 5 and I'm not getting optimal contact with my large xp120.

The 120mm fan on top of the heatsink is a generic fan as well, and typically only runs at about 1800 - 2000 rpm.

The reason I ask is I see many in these forums w/ my same CPU but much higher clocks. I was just hoping you guys could offer some advice on how to get a higher clock!

5.25 V?? Maybe 1.525? Is the 50 C at load or idle. If it's at idle, something is wrong. Unfortunately, just because xx number of people get their CPU's to a cetain speed, doesn't mean yours will.

yeah, I'm guessing he meant 1.525.....

you've still got 500mhz boost on both cores, so i'm not totally surprised that it's where you landed. it's a good oc, and as long as things are stable (i.e. make sure you're running 2 instances of prime95), that sounds pretty good. hell, you're 100mhz faster than a 4600 manchester.

as for you temperatures, obviously the best temperature is as low as you can go, so i'd say give it a shot reapplying the thermal paste using this guide, making sure to pay attention to the section illustrating the procs with the IHS. make sure that there is excellent contact between the HSF and the IHS when installing the xp120

If you're truly bothered about the temps, you could always make an intake hole in your sidepanel feeding air directly into the 120.

Sorry, I did mean 1.525 V. And that 50 C is at load. If I let Prime95 run for a an hour or so the temp will creep up into the 55 C range.

yeah, shouldnt you be running it for 10 hrs or so?

I would try reapplying the as5 also. Just listen to the poster above lol

50c load is pretty normal for that overclock, at least thats what im hovering around as well on mine (although im using less voltage and a slightly higher clock). Is it failing prime on either core? Did you make sure your HT multi is low enough, and your ram settings keep the ram around their stock speeds?

temps seem a bit high for an xp-120
what case and fans do u have? i have an si-120 w/ a 120mm coolermaster LED fan on it at full speed in smartguardian...i never even touch 50 even when priming
maybe try replacing your fan or fixing up airflow and that shud help a bit. remember, artic silver takes about 6months to "settle" in before u notice the results

i've had that xp-120 installed w/ AS5 since xmas.

I've got this case:
CHENMING CMUI-601AEB-AW Black Case (from the [H]ard|OCP 1500 Q2-Q3 guide). 2 80 mm exhaust and 1 80 mm intake. cable management is pretty tidy w/ sleving etc. The specifc sticks of ram I have are:

CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail
Model #: TWINX1024-3200C2PT (2-3-3-6)

aslo the fan I have installed is a generic 120 mm fan, nothing special. Also, it doesnt fail under prime95, it just gets hot when i monitor the temps in speedfan.

lastly, if i try to get a higer fsb at a bios core of 1.425, (my ram is at DDR333 and HT multi is at 4x) then my comp wont boot. is that just a product of the mobo i'm using? or should i try and lower the HT multi? any thoughts?
