Ok well I'm having some voltage problems here and I am unsure what is the cause.

I have an abit KU8 mother board. And lately the abit EQ software that tracks temps and voltage has been warning me about the voltage to one of the ATX sources.

volts.gif

Here is an image of it^.

Although I didnt have a chance to take a screenshot during the warning it has dropped as low as 10.97v.

The error log reads as...

Code:

my real question here is, what is the cause of the problem? The power source? or the motherboard?

I say power source at first 'cause it is a spec source from the case manufacturer (Xion) and I heard those are never reliable. But then I think that the only cause I've seen is to just the ATX +12v thats the problem. That leads me to think this could possibly be the motherboard in some way.

Right now it is running fine, when I reboot, it might not.

I am basically asking on what the problem is and how it can be resolved. Thanks for the help!

The first thing I'd say is never trust a software voltage reading. Is your computer crashing/ locking up alot since if you were getting real dips like that it would be. If it's really doing that you should also hear the fans slow down and speed up... alittle at least. I'd put more money on a faulty sensor. If you really want to make sure then mesure the 12V line with a multimeter. I'd bet it won't show those wacky voltages. If it does I'd get a new powersupply tho the mobo can cause odd voltages. I had a Shuttle mobo that would increase voltage on the 12V line when under load, more load = higher voltage. It did this with any powersupply. As an electrical engineer I found this amazing...a mobo that's also a powerplant, defying the laws of physics! Then I got an ABit NF7-s and it was perfectly happy bogging down the 12V line under load.
