I was wondering if anyone can help me ??
Here is my situation:
I built a system to be used primary for digital photography (Photoshop),running general apps (basically a "high end workstation") & some games
I was given an Asus socket 939 motherboard (A8V Deluxe) ,AMD64 3200+(VENICE CORE),and 2 Gigs of DDR RAM ( Corsair Value Select VS1GB400C3 (2) 1 GIG sticks ...this is my starting point.......What do you recommend as the additional components to make this the "best" WORKSTATION machine possible ???
I was thinking about eventually going to the Dual Core AMD 4800+ and selling my AMD64 3200+ when prices are more favorable ??
Will I see any real world difference between an AGP or a PCI express video card ???
Reason for asking is should I switch out the motherboard for one that supports PCI express or SLI ??? (I do play some games on some rare occasions ) & (the stuff I got was free)
if I stick with this board what AGP card is recommended ??? Some say that the Radeon X850 XT is the fastest AGP and is good for games if you don't want to go to PCI Express ???
Main use as I said for this machine will be Photoshop, and other graphics apps for digital photography, some video editing ,general apps & some games
I was just curious if you have always had a Raptor drive as you O/S drive ??
Reason for asking I currently have a Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB Serial ATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer as my working drive
I am thinking about switching out my 160 gig drive for a 74 gig Raptor....am I going to see a performance boost that is worth the cost of the Raptor ??
How about the noise and heat ??
Actually storage space is not really a major concern as I use a P4 3.06 w/2 gigs of ram and (2) 300 gig drives in raid 1 as my NAS system (networked attached storage)
Can you recommend what the best course of action is to finish this machine, and any worth while "upgrades"
I want this to be a performance machine but at the same time trying to be budget conscious !!!
Thanks.for your help....Stu
