I was hoping to get some help diagnosing/fixing a problem.

I have an Asrock X79 Extreme4 motherboard with a 4x4GB GSkill Sniper memory kit installed. I've had this setup since June of 2012 and haven't had any problems until now.

The ddr3 stick in slot 'C' isn't recognized anymore. Rotating the sticks in slots 'C' and 'D' results in the ddr3 stick in slot 'C' not being recognized. Because of this I don't think it is a bad memory stick.

I've tried updating the BIOS and reseating the memory stick but it doesn't want to recognize it.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like either the motherboard or a flaky pin contact on the cpu. Carefully remove the heat sink and processor and using a magnifying glass look for a slightly bent or corroded pin. Even if you don't find anything reassemble and see if it works. If not it's likely the motherboard and a slight chance it's the processor itself.

Thanks, I'll give that a try and report back, hopefully it's just a pin not making good contact.

Also try using Profile 1 for Ram Settings instead Auto

Sometime the settings are different during Auto and maybe something wants more voltage after so many years.

Tried switching to ram profile 1 in the bios, I also took everything apart, on inspection everything looks perfect.

Still not working and I think the board is still under warranty so I went ahead and contacted Asrock support. This is my first experience of this sort, hopefully it doesn't turn into a huge headache.

Keep us updated on how the RMA goes.

I've only had to contact ASROCK a couple times and that was because I bricked my BIOS when I was flashing it manually.

Once I got the new BIOS chip, I hot-swapped the old one in and re-flashed it.

Had some contact with Asrock support. The support guy was really nice, he had me reseat the cpu(which I had already done), then clear the CMOS and try a single ram stick in each slot.

Unfortunately this didn't change anything, the board won't even post with a single ram stick in the C1 slot. The support guy told me someone from customer service will contact me about a replacement. So far so good.

Wow, so nearly a month has gone by on this.

Shortly after my previous post, I had someone give me an RMA number and then shipped the board via UPS ground. Earlier this week I received an email that a replacement had been shipped. While everything took much longer than I would have liked, I received the replacement yesterday and everything seems to be up and running correctly!

Make sure the sticks are inserted properly.. If there is only one notch that needs to be clicked the other side may be lose. Push hard.
