Help- Testing new Dell U2311H

Just ordered a Dell U2311H yesterday. Have read all the problems with IPS panel quality control and want to make sure I catch problems before 21 day reurn/exchange period up... Have read most articles on TFT Central, but that stuff is WAY over my head!
I'm a bit of a perfectionist and want to make sure that I don't get one of these 'problem' panels with green/pink tint, any backlight bleed, or any type of Panel Uniformity issues.
Without investing in any calibration hardware, at least yet, can you guys tell me how and what I go about testing for problems and then adjust color settings/profiles- and what to watch out for.
I've also found a few sources of ICC color profiles and settings for specific monitor models. Can these work out ok from monitor to monitor?
*** Does anyone have any custom ICC profile, ect for the latest revision of Dell U2311H (TFT Central only has posted for rev A00)?

You can test it with you eyes. Put a black wallpaper on your desktop and tell us what you see or take a photo.
 
There are only two quick tests that are useful to perform on any new monitor.

The first is the white background test. In this test we apply a white image and observe the consistency of the panel's luminance, A deviation of 25% within the field area is considered acceptable by the manufacturer. 25% is not a very good result and is noticeable. 15-17% is ideal for a consumer monitor.

The second white background issue we are looking for is evenness of the colour of white across the field area. Ideally there should not be any noticeable drift in the panel correlated color temperature. Results in this area can vary from prominent and unacceptable red / green tinting on the panel sides to barely noticeable fluctuation. My U2311 had a blueish left side that is noticeable on a white background. For photography this would be unacceptable, and at the very least it is cosmetically unappealing. Still, it is acceptable for my brother's games computer.

The next test is the black background test. In this test we look for panel bleed which is apparently caused by pressure applied to a poorly seated panel causing brighter spots to appear around the edges of the monitor. This must not be confused in the case of the U2311 with IPS "glow' which is a sort of viewing angle effect where light leakage occurs in diagonal off-angle viewing positions. True panel bleed does not change with viewing position. The difference can be hard or impossible to determine when people submit their monitor photos in this forum for users to evaluate. It may be useful to stand back more than a metre when checking for panel bleed.

You know, you'll never get a 'perfect' one. If you can't notice anything through normal use within the 21 days I wouldn't worry about it. Don't create a problem by looking for the tiniest thing.

Anyone know what Revision version U2311H's are currently shipping, thinking either A02 or A03... Does anyone have or know where to find ICC profiles/OSD settings for later revisions?
