Ok I got a new shuttle. Specs are:

SN95G
3200+ Winchester
512 DDR
6800NU OC
Maxtor 160G Hard Drive

When trying to install XP PRO, it gets to "Setup is starting windows" and it just shuts off. The BIOS says the temps are at ~53C idle, but inside it feels uber cool. I'm thinking that the BIOS is misreading the temps. Any help would be greatly appriciated. THX!

Ok this is getting me into a shitty mood. I got the Shuttle from an [H] member with everything already installed. I just added Ram and the 6800. He said his max load temps were 44C so I asked that he leave it intacted since I'm not the best with thermal paste. He left the HD, CD/RW, CPU all intacted. I get it today and its at 53-54C idle. I go to installed XP Pro and even tried 2000 Pro and it cuts off at the same exact place "setup is starting Windows". Since it shuts off at the same place everytime I do not think it could be an overheating issue. I have no clue what else to try though. Any help is good.

All the fans working? Anything noticeable on the motherboard itself?? CPU fan working (most importantly)? It sounds like something in the cooling isn't working right. Or perhaps there's a burnt capacitor.

Well I was at his house last night workin on it. From what I can tell all the fans are on and everything looks good. I'm thinking it could just be thermal paste. When we boot and go straight to the BIOS the temps just starts climbing. The guy that sold it to him said it idle'd at like 38C, and it's getting to around 53C. That's all I got, any more suggestions?

If you can, pop off the CPU fan, and check the thermal paste. Might have to add a bit more, that i'm not certain of.

How is the room temperature? Hot? If thats the case, see if you can lower the room temperature. Also, check to make sure any temp sensors are outta place.

Also, did you check the capacitors and stuff? Is anything burnt on the mobo? Any foul burning smells?

First thing I would check would be the memory really, it may be completely unrelated but it is probaby worth running memtest just to check.

The memory was pulled from a working system. My room is always pretty hot with all my computers going but it shouldn't make a 20C difference. I really have no idea how to get this shuttles heatsink off as it doesn't screw down like my other shuttles have. I'll take a look at the manual and look over the paste. But really if nothing in hot in the case I don't see how it is overheating. My other shuttle just my putting your hand on the rear exaust metal gratting it is very hot to the touch where this feels cool.

Is the system overclocked? You could try setting the CMOS back to the defaults.

I agree. Reset CMOS and start from scratch if it's OC'd.

I got it to where it got to 100% setup files installed so it has to be overheating. I'm getting some paste soon and will try again.
