Hi all...

I am hoping someone can help me. I am getting a high pitch whinning noise from my computer, but only on certain things or program, not all the time. I get it when I start xpadder 1.54 now, I also get it when the video was playing at http://www.speedrome.com and when I edit video I notice it. It is really annoying. The research I did said it could be the video card, but how do I test it? Should I pull the cover off the card, it is a XFX Nvidia 9600 with 512mb of DDR3 ram. It is a great card but this noise drives me nuts. What are my options.. It have a core i7 920 cpu, on a gigabyte 3 mb, with a 650 Corsair ps.

Thanks for any help on this..

It's inductor coil whine, and usually occurs when your video card is generating very high FPS. The trick is that it could be either the video card or the PSU (the way they interplay is important for this issue) or even coils on the motherboard. You will want to pull the cover off and try to determine if it's coming from the video card or the PSU.

Some users have managed to stop the coil whine by immobilizing the coil, usually by putting various kinds of stuff on them, but it's better to RMA whatever is making the noise.

Hello,

Thanks for the info. I can not determine which it is as they are so close to each other. I did do some more searching on this and found someone saying that if I disable CPU Enhanced Halt it will clear up the problem. I did that and guess what, it did clear up the problem. The computer runs a little hotter, about 5 degrees idle, it is not over clocked and most things are set to auto. I am now very confused. Any ideas?

Thanks.
