Hi, I have been looking around for an answer to this question for quite some time with no availability. I just got a 9800 SE and it will softmod to Pro. However, whenever I run 3d applications, there are a bunch of artifacts. Since the card works fine in 2d, it should be a heat issue and therefore, if I was to put an aftermarket cooling system on the card, the artifacts should go away?
 
Try underclocking the card or disabling things such as AA/AF. But I am not sure if adding better cooling will make them go away, you might have to go back to stock..not all cards are able to softmod.
 
the 4 pipes you unlocked are probably not able to be unlocked, you'll have to flash the card back and hope it locks up the right pipes
 
I didn't hardmod it, thankfully. Just softmodded (via software). Now I hope that I can Overclock the Crap out of it.
 
if you are getting artifacts after flashing the card, you arent gonna be able to use it with those extra 4 pipes... you will continue to get artifacts as long as they remain open
