I just got a new Seagate 1TB ES.2 drive and ran the SMART test. I got an failed error message! Can someone explain the error?

HD Tune 2.54
(BD) (unknown attribute) Current/1 Worst/1 Threshold/45 Data/65535 Status/Failed

Active SMART 2.6 says the same thing and says "WARNING, the drive indicated a SMART error condition. Immediately back-up your data and replace this hard disk drive! A failure may be imminent." Yet, Active SMART still lists my drive health as good.

Any feedback on this would be much appreciated!

Use Seagate's tools to run a smart test.. If it fails again rma.. It is on the cd that came with the drive if you bought retail.. If not it is available on their website..
I would definitely use Seagate's software to check smart values since the attribute in question could not be identified by HDtune..

But, any smart errors should be looked at seriously, backup the important stuff b4 doing anything else..

HDDScan identified the error in attribution 189 as "High Fly Writes." This is pretty serious so I'm definitely sending this drive back. Kind of a pain because I already copied a bunch of stuff onto it and now have to off-load it again.
