help setting up RAID1 with XP!

so i'm trying to setup a RAID 1 mirror using IDE HDs

I've configured my BIOS correctly (although I notice the drives do not appear under the "Standard CMOS Features" menu on my bios)
I've configured the RAID array correctly (the array is detected on boot up)

I've inserted my WinXP CD to boot from, except when it boots from the cd, the screen says Windows is "Detecting Hardware configuration". Then the screen goes black. I cant load the nvidia drivers on the A drive b/c i never reach the screen that enables you to load drivers before installing windows

Can you set up windows on a single drive? Is your PC overclocked? What version of WinXP are you installing? Is the install media scratched?
