Help setting up new RAID card

I recently installed a new PCI RAID card (Rocket RAID 133) on an older box running Windows 2K. The install went without a hitch. I set up 2 60 Gb HDs as a RAID 1 array. The RAID control software that came with the card is correctly identifiying the HDs and says the array is working. Under the Hardware tab on My Computer -> Properties the array shows up as an available device and Device Manager shows the array and its drivers are both functioning without conflicts. The problem is there is no drive available under Windows Explorer. What am I missing here?

This is my first experience setting up RAID so thanks for any help you can provide.

Really really stupid question, but did you format the drives?

oh I wouldnt say that, its a quite common solution :p
which does sound applicable in this case

Start > Run > (type) diskmgmt.msc > Rclick unallocated space > Partition and Format

the disk\array needs to be intialized by the OS, partitioned and formatted with a filesystem before it will be assigned a drive letter and seen in Windows Explorer or My Computer

Initializing is normally automatic if its recognized in Disk Management and shows unallocated space
its been initialized, if not
How to install an additional hard drive using Windows XP Disk Management

as far as the OS is concerned the RAID array is invisible and it looks like any other single HDD

Oh my God. I can't believe how stupid that was. No I never formatted the new drives. Did I mention I was a noob to RAID? I wish I could say that I was a computer noob period but I have no such excuse. Stupid stupid stupid. Thanks guys.

dont be too hard on yourself, partitioning and formatting the drives prior to building the array doesnt work, so that rules out fdisk or other utilities
and then either its done by the install disk (but only after you have loaded the RAID drivers during the install process by pressing F6 to load additional SCSI drivers) if your intending to boot to the array or its done from withing Windows as mentioned above (or with a third party ap)

so its often different than how alot of people normally format a drive ;)

Glad its solved, have fun :D
