I am having some problems with planning my new disk layout in my machine; I am looking for help with RAID-0 setup. I have two Intel X25-M 80GB SSDs that I want to stripe and use as my OS disk for fast performance. The problem is, I also have a few regular SATA hard drives in my system that I do NOT want to RAID. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and a ASUS P6T X58 motherboard with ICH10R south bridge chip. I am very confused as to what needs to be installed (RAID drivers, RST, storage software etc...) and when to do so.
Since I have been running Win7 for awhile now, I have gone ahead and imaged the OS installation so that I will be able to use it again after the RAID-0 and fresh install has been configured--via Acronis TrueImage. As of now, my SATA disks are configured as IDE though so I haven't switched to RAID. I've been told that by doing this I could mess up the disk structure on the other non-OS SATA slave drives. Is that correct or would it be okay? Again, the other SATA disks in the machine (that contain non-system data) are not be used in RAID array. Is this even possible?
I consider myself to be very tech savvy but this whole thing has me dead in the water. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be excellent. I basically just need to know where to start and when/how to install the RAID drivers and software. Thanks in advance for any help!
