I bought one of the Seagate SATA 750gb perpendicular drives (model ST3750640AS) lately and stuck it in my system. Two days later, crash out of nowhere. It would do this on a very regular basis too -- every 1-2 days. Not sooner, not later. After making sure it's not the temps or other programs or my overclock, this was the only thing left I could think of. I have 2 other drives in my system, both IDE. Both the regularity of the crashes and the thought that different HD types can cause my system to crash is puzzling me.

Anyone heard of this problem? Could it be something else?

Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive. What is your system specs and what power supply do you have?

All drives pass all SMART checks. Here's what I'm using.

x2 3800+
DFI nf4 Lanparty-D
OCZ Platinum pc3200 1gb (x2)
7800gtx
OCZ 520W Powerstream
1x IDE Maxtor 6Y160PO (160GB) with a 20gb boot partition
1x IDE WDC WD1200BB-53CAA1 (120GB)
1x SATA ST3750640AS (700GB) with a 25gb boot partition (unused, set to inactive)

Yep did all that. Memtest went all night with 0 errors, no viruses/spyware detectable which isn't really surprising since this is a newly formatted partition and I watch my network activity and ports like a hawk.
