I recently borrowed my buddy's capture card and when i was finished with it I foolishly yanked it out of my box without uninstalling it first. When I rebooted I started getting crazy errors such as "CPU has been changed" etc, and Windows would not start - it said "Hal.dll missing or corrupt."
Accorfing to the microsoft website this meant my boot.ini file was corrupted, and I tried using the recovery console on the XP cd to fix it, but to no avail (lock ups etc).
My next course of action was to put another HD in and install windows on that so I could copy my important files off my old boot drive and then reformat. My problem is that my old boot drive is a RAID 0 array, and it doesn't show up in my new installation of windows...
The array shows up in the highpoint RAID bios, and the data on it should be fine, but how can I get it to show up in my new installation of windows so I can copy files over from it?
I put this computer together a few years ago and I dont really remember how I got all the RAID stuff working in the first place.
My system is as follows:
Athlon XP 1800+
Abit KR7A-RAID
80gig HD channel 1 master (just for data)
3gig crap HD channel 1 slave (just put in for the new xp installation)
cd-r/dvd-r channel 2
two 40 gig HD's in RAID 0 on Highpoint RAID channels 1 and 2 as master (boot drive that i am trying to retrieve data from)
I guess I've become noob since I put this system together....
Any help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks!
