Help regarding sil 0680 ata 133 raid controller

Hi,

I recently bought a sil 0680 ata 133 raid controller but I had problems with Windows 2000 recognizing it. It gave me a BSOD stop error and complained about the BIOS not being fully ACPI compliant right after the installation of the card and bootup. I found a workaround which is to disable ACPI but even after Windows 2000 installs the drivers and sees the controller, I can't see any hard drives attached to the controller. I read the manual and it said it supported RAIDed alongside non-RAID sets and figured it would work with single drives also, much like a normal IDE controller. I plan on trying to add a RAID-0 set along with the single drive to see if it will work.

I am currently using a 20GB OS hard disk off my Asus P2B slot 1 motherboard on the UDMA-33 primary master channel. I want to use a newer UDMA-100 drive attached to the controller and boot off it if possible to phase out the 20GB drive. This is my first time with a raid card and would greatly appreciate your input into this matter, especially if you own a sil 0680 card. My intuition tells me that the motherboard is probably too old since it refuses to boot off the controller even when the boot order is set to SCSI . This is after I have installed the drivers in Windows and attached the 20GB OS hard disk to the controller to test if the boot works.

Oddly enough though, it booted once off the controller but that was prior to Windows having the drivers for the card and it BSOD on me.

This is really frustrating. Am I doomed? Thanks for your input.
 
1) try another PCI slot
2) try changing IRQs the mobo assigns for that PCI slot
3) change BIOS setting for PNP os (if its set to PnP os yes then turn to no and vice versa.... some call it DOS or OTHER versus win95 98 etc installed option)
4) go buy a used promise ultra 66 controller. even brand new hard drives cant transfer data faster then about 40MB/s so theres no real advantage to getting a controller faster then a 66MB/s especially with an older system, and the promise cards are about the best you can buy.
