hi merry christmas..

i have amd xp 2600+ and a geforce 6600GT

my pc restarts by itself.. my question is.. if i get a better processor like a 3400+ will my pc run cooler because its not stressing as much.. and will my games run better
 
uhh whats your question?

if your asking will your games run better. Of course it will.

and about your Computer restarting if its due to the cpu overheating.. umm maybe.
But I think it may be your ram or your psu. who knows someone correct me if im wrong. ;)

Its not the ram, graphics card, hdd.. i chekced them.. this has been oging on.. but can u guys ifnd me a amd 3400+ for ike 185

2You also need to specify how many A on the 12V line.

3That card is moderately power hungry but not really.

4Maybe the PSU is crap.

5Did this start when you added the video card?

6Did you install the correct drivers?

7Are your chipset drivers installed?

8A new cpu will NOT fix that problem at all.
 
dude.. none of those were even asked as questions.. my main question is.. Since my 6600GT is eating my 2600+ .. will the 3400+ or 3200+ run cooler since it wont be getting video card choked?
 
Its really not that bad of a cpu though, the reboots are most likely caused by ESD dammage, or a bad PSU. As a general rule, the faster the chip, the more power it will use, and the hotter it will run. The GPU choking won't make it run hot, but a lack of power will.

You need that driver. Whats it doing? No I dont think it supports the 64. I don't know too much about AMD stuff though.

I think its your power supply honestly man. You NEED that AGP driver installed or ANY graphics card is going to run at PCI speed.
 
this gay guy says: no it won't. intel and amd boards and cpus are not compatible at all. they do make some great A64 Nforce boards and such though.
 
there are pins on the bottom of the processor that only fit into specific sockets on the mobo. even chips with the same socket wont always work in different boards. its a pretty specific thing.
 
hmmm... you've got quite an interesting computer there. i'm guessing you built it yourself, because that's the only way you're gonna get an athlon xp paired with 2gb ram.

i would recommend selling your psu, motherboard, cpu, heatsink/fan, and a gig of ram, from which you should get a total of around $400 if it's all really good, and getting a 400W+ psu (like an antec truepower or something) a socket939 athlon64 proc (retail), and a socket939 mobo. this will all cost a pretty penny, and the sales total may not cover all of it, but it will be seriously worth the money.

your computer will in fact be much more the gaming machine than it is right now, as you don't need 2gb ram unless you're either addicted to hl2 or doom 3, or you're running a website off your home comp, and because you're getting a lot more oomph outta that a64 than you are from the axp.

a few extra fans would also be good, i'd recommend a pair of 80mm fans set up so that one is a front intake and one is a rear exhaust. psu fans aren't really enough anymore, sadly, unless you've got a celeron or something crappy like that. go for the slightly more expensive name-brand fans and you'll wind up replacing them less often.

another tip, more on the aesthetics side than the performance side: best buy is clearing out a "modware" kit for $2 apiece. each kit contains a nibbler tool for cutting metal, a window and molding, rounded cables, a ccfl light, and a fan and fan grill. i would pick up at least one and use the cables, fan, and grill. round cables will improve airflow, and the fan will help as well, as mentioned in the last paragraph.

if for no other reason, pick one or two up because it's literally about 25x cheaper than it would be to peice it together online.
 
all i want is my damn cpu.. i never sed i want a psu etc.. iknow i need it.. but my pc is fine... i want a cpu.. but obviously i cant egt an A64 or Intl.. so im screwed
 
if you do what i suggest you will not have any problems for a long time indeed.

your psu is almost certainly inadequate. you can upgrade your cpu to a faster athlon xp. however, if you want to go a64, you will have to put in a new motherboard as well.

if your psu is a good brand, and your memory is made by someone like ocz or mushkin, then you can actually get up to $400 by selling a gig of that memory, your motherboard, cpu, and power supply. you won't need that extra memory unless you are doing professional graphics, video editing, hardcore gaming (by which i mean doom 3 or half-life 2 for more than twelve hours at a time) or hosting a large website from your home computer. it just won't get any use.

if you upgrade without upgrading your psu, i can virtually guarantee what will happen. your psu will be too weak to power what you've got, producing nasty voltage fluctuations on the rails. this has been known to wipe hard drives.

i can't tell you what to do, but i can tell you the best course of action. i can also tell you from firsthand knowledge that the installation of the things you will be putting in is simple enough that you can do it correctly and be done in less than an hour.

Can u find me an amd board or intel board with a fast 3.0 ghz processor with it..
and make it cheap.. like find a motherboard.. ill get the processor.. make sure they support A64

before u do anything. i'd suggest try a format. sometimes computers do weird things and this might be it. i think it has to do with ur psu maybe... but i suggest if u tried everything and ur about to give up. try a full format and see what happens.
 
I stumbled upon this thread and I don't quite understand what the issue is here.

You bought a new video card, and now your pc "restarts by itself", which I interperate to be crashing. Then you go on to say that you wonder if a 3500+ will run cooler because running that card with a 2600+ is too tasking... You then wonder if you can plug in an Athlon 64Bit processor into a presumably 32bit chipset based motherboard. Finally you ask if you can install an Intel Pentium processor of some kind...

1. Your current motherboard is designed to run 32bit architecture. You cannot and will never be able to run a 64bit processor on your current motherboard.

2. You keep referring to the fact that you cannot get enough juice out of the card, and that your pc restarts by itself. You are not getting enough power from the power supply. The presumably cheap PSU you bought needs to be upgraded. You will have to purchase a new one, and just going on "350watt!" is not enough. You must make sure that your new PSU meets the requirements of your system. Pick up a PSU with ATLEAST 30 Amps on the 12v line, and split 12v lines is best. There is a thread about PSUs in the PSU subforum.

3. Unless there is something new going on you cannot have an Intel board supporting A64 (or Athlon 64). If you want to build a system based on the Athlon 64 processor you must install it into a motherboard designed for the Athlon 64, not the Intel Pentium.

4. My guess is, although you have been strongly against this, you bought a no name brand PSU and it's simply not supplying enough "juice" and your computer is rebooting and crashing as such.

5. So we can move in a positive direction and maybe disprove the "weak PSU" theory, please list the exact name of your PSU (i.e. Brand, Model number, and anything else).
