I built a new rig and this is my first quad core setup on the LGA 775 socket.

ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 EO Yorkfield 2.83GHz
OCZ 780 W psu

I have 2 new CPU Coolers

ASUS Triton 78
OCZ OCZTVEND Vendetta

Can you please give me the best settings to Overclock the chip to 3.80 GHz

I have a core i7 920 and It;s at 4.2 GHz on a watercooled set up 28 deg c Idle 59 c on load and that was easy , but I have no knowledge on the 775 socket.

Thanks for any advice.

Here's a start. Keep everything stock and crank up the q9550 until it errors or freezes or until you find a stable clock (with IBT/OCCT). I got to 3.6 @ 1.25v with everything else stock. If your q9550 is one of the newer ones, you may be able to get 3.8 without any changes in voltage.

Whats your chip's VID? What RAM are you using?

Here are the important settings you'll probably need to play with:

vCore: start with 1.3v or so, depending on your VID
vNB: 1.25-1.5
vDRAM: depends on your RAM, i use 2.1
vTT (FSB Term): 1.25-1.5
vPLL: may need to bump this up a little

NB GTL Reference: 0.67 <---This makes a BIG DIFFERENCE with stability
CPU GTL Reference (0/2 and 1/3): 0.63 or leave on Auto

There are some good threads on xtremesystems.org for Q9550 and P5Q owners, check that place out as well.

I'm doing 3.8Ghz (450x8.5) @ 1.14v Actual / 1.2v BIOS
I have MSI P45 Neo2-FR and it does 450FSB at 1.22v
VTT is set at 1.25v

NB stock voltage is 1.1v and doesnt require a lot of extra juice to do 450-475 FSB.
and try not to exceed 1.4v on FSB VTT to be on a safer side

m0h1t's recommendations are a good starting point. Most people don't need to crank their vTT/vNB very high to achieve a good overclock. From the testing I've done on my board so far, it seems like my setup does for 100% stability. I'm constantly playing with it.

You might be able to hit 3.8GHz just by upping the FSB to 450 (keep RAM at 1:1 and multi at 8.5), I am at 3.8GHz wile being undervolted, so it's more than doable, try it and see if its stable.

That's what I had set in the BIOS and it stayed that way during load (LLC enabled in BIOS). My sig's outdated, however. At that voltage, I could run 30 loops of large Linpack problems and finish without errors, but for some reason, doing Prime blend tests, core 1 gets an error after 45mins-3 hours...so for now, I'm playing with voltages to try to rectify it. I refuse to back down from 4ghz!

GIGABYTE GV-R467ZL-1GI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

How does this sound????

FSB - 450
Vcore - ????
RAM Ratio - 1:1
Ram voltage - 1.8
FSB VTT - 1.2v
CPU PLL - 1.5v
NB - 1.28
Other settings are just set to manual stock defaults

Please let me know If changes need to be made. The Board came today and the chip will arrive Monday 10/26/09

Thanks for all the helpful advice , much appreciated mates.

Well the chip arrived FedEx today and I've been trying some Overclocks. The best I can get is 3.40GHz. Is that b/c of my 800MHz Ram?

ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz SLB8V
Patriot Viper - 4GB / PC 6400 800mhz / 4-4-4-12 timings (4 more GB coming Monday)

What can I do to hit 3.80MHz ?? Here are my BIOS Settings so far.

CPU Ratio: 08.5
FSB Freq: 400
DRAM Freq: DDR2 801MHz
4-4-4-12
CPU Voltage: 1.12500
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.50
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.20
DRAM Voltage: 1.80
NB Voltage: 1.26

Everything else was left on Auto or there default settings.

Thanks Again Everyone.
