Hi guys,

I've got what I believe is a serious issue with my rig.
Since this morning my rig does not boot properly.
when i hit the power button to computer starts as normal, however the display never "unsleeps". Also my modem has a light that indicates PC activity, and this light remains out. this leads me to believe that there is nothing actually going on in the box, just fans/drives spinning. I have checked all the wire conections (internally, and externally) Also all fans are spinning including vid card, and the hard drive is spinning also. The DVD drive will open and shut.
On startup the machine still dual boots (as i have read is expected for my chipset) so i believe that the Mobo is fine.

So hopefully someone can help me.

If there is any othe info you need please ask. Rig in sig (Q6600)

Thanks,

Red

So you just have no video?
Do you hear the POST beep?
Try another monitor?
What monitor do you have?
Try another vidcard?

afaik there is no internal speaker in the case (as i have never heard a beep while the computer is booting)
As for the monitor it works fine with my old rig.
I dont have another vid card to test (however the lack of interation between the rig and the modem suggests to me that the vid card is probably not the issue

monitor is a Samsung 216BW flat panel

Fundamental boot issue. Try resetting the CMOS with the power connector disconnected from the PC. If it still doesn't boot strip the system down to its bare essentials (mainboard, PSU, RAM, CPU, GPU) and try to get that configuration working stable first.

well i reset the cmos (following the instructions in the users manual)
now the machine does not boot at all. The LED does not indicate the the motherboard is getting power at all (it used to before the CMOS rest)

If you have both the 20/24 pin main ATX connector plugged in, AND the 4-Pin ATX12V P4 CPU (OR 8-pin EPS) connector plugged in, then the board should boot fine.

You could test the PSU: Jump start it (on the main atx connector, short the green wire with any black wire, using a paperclip), and see if it stays on. If not, then its probably a faulty PSU. If it works then proceed (though, in rare cases, it may still be the PSU at fault).

Setup everything outside of the case, with the mobo on top of its cardboard box. Plug in only the essentials:
- PSU (namely: main 20/24-pin ATX connector and 4-pin ATX12V P4 CPU Connector (OR 8-pin EPS))
- CPU w/ HSF (don't forget to plug in the fan)
- Single stick of ram
- Videocard if there is no onboard video (and PCI-E power, if needed)
- Monitor
- Keyboard
- System speaker/buzzer (if no onboard one is present)

* Use a screwdriver if your board doesnt have an onboard power switch. Jump (connect) the two power switch leads to turn the power on (hold connected for a few seconds).

If it won't POST, try different RAM slots. If it still won't POST, pull out the ram (so no ram in the system) and listen for error beeps. If none, pull the vidcard and listen for error beeps. If none, re-seat the CPU/HSF and try again. Report back with results if you're still having issues.
