hey all, this is my first post.

I've had my current setup for a while now, and everything has been working smoothly. Up until a few days ago.

I can't get any sound out of my computer. I've checked all of my connections, and they're all fine, but still no sound. The loss of sound was pretty sudden while i was playing HL2. I thought maybe a restart would fix the problem, but 6 restarts later, still no sound.

I'm using the integrated sound on my Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, and Logitech Z-560s. Could someone please help? I'm asking for an Audigy 2zs for Xmas, but I'd really like to get my sound working b4 then. Is there a chance that my speakers or soundchip could have just gone bad?

Thnx for any help.

It just stopped working all of a sudden? while you were playing a game? Check the speakers Unplug the audio cord and plug it in a cd player or radio to see if it works. :)

Well, it got really fuzzy and distant sounding very suddenly, then it cut out completely next time i went to play the game. I haven't been able to get sound in any application since then.

I've checked and rechecked all of my connections, and they all seem to be fine. I swapped out my Z-560s for an old set of JBL 2.0s to see if it was the speakers or the soundchip, and those didn't work either. So I'm pretty sure it's not my speakers that are causing the problem. Is there a setting that I need to check (i've checked all my volume controls)? Is there a chance that my soundchip could have gone bad?

Any suggestions are very welcome

It remote but possible that your sound processor has gone Kaput. Although to put it like this. After nearly 15 Years in IT I've yet to see a Soundcard go bad (I've still got a working SB Pro)

Does anyone know how I could find out what's causing me to be unable to get any sound? I'm pretty sure it's not my speakers. So how do I find out if it's my soundchip or not?

have you checked device manager? is the device reported to be working fine?
if you're running windows xp i would suggest using system restore to revert back to a previous state.

also, try downloading this utility and see if it does anything for you.
it's a utility to help you configure your nforce2 based integrated audio device
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvswap_1.0
-if it reports some problems perhaps there might be a hardware problem with the audio device.

as a last alternative and if you have a spare hard drive, remove the one you're using now and install the spare one. install windows onto it and then the nforce drivers. if the audio still fails to work i would consider your integrated audio to be fried.
