I just bought all this crap and found out that the board doesn't support ECC although EVERYWHERE Abit lists the specs they say it does....

ABIT IC7-MAX3 MB
4 sticks of Corsair TWINX 1024RE-3200LLPT RT DDR (2 gigs = 4 512mb modules)

I'm wondering should I return the MB for one that supports ECC ram?

or

Should I send back the RAM for some other modules non-ecc and unbuffered?

I'm working mainly in 3d Studio Max and Photoshop but I game alot as well.

Any suggestions, clarifications, advice, proof that this memory won't work with this board, etc.?

I'm at work so I haven't tested this yet but I've been reading everywhere and it seems as though this is the case. Just need someone to verify so I can go ahead and get an RMA and start that process. Thanks in advance.

Is it unbuffered or registered ECC? The ram part # makes me think it's registered. I'm guessing that's your problem if it's not working. Pretty much only dual (or more) cpu boards use registered mem.

Yeah it's registered.

So what should I get? I still want the 2 gigs of ram...although it probably would help me that much but I'm thinking more of the long term...won't have to upgrade for quite awhile.

I agree with Mad_Pyro, go with the Corsair. I know for a fact that it works wonderfully with that motherboard.

Just to be curious, what was the reasoning for purchasing registered ECC ram?

Mainly because I'm working with 2 gigs of ram and I've heard that errors will pop up like mad if I didn't.

However, I've returned the ECC for Unbuffered Non-ECC.

The i875P chipsets won't take the "Registered" memory. Quote from ABIT tech rep.

Don't worry, your not the first to fall into the ECC trap.

Those chipsets/boards support ECC, but only Unbuffered ECC RAM not the standard Registered ECC like most servers and current AthFX boards use.
