Ok, this probably isn't a monitor problem because I've tried 2 already, but basically I just built a p4 3.4 system with an intel 915pbl motherboard. I haven't been able to configure the bios or install windows yet, but it beeps 3 times and everything powers on initially: the fans, the mouse, the keyboard lights up briefly, and the video card heatsink fan comes on.

Now my motherboard doesn't have a VGA input for the monitor so I plugged it into my pci-e 6600gt but both monitors don't respond. I don't have a floppy drive or an optical drive hooked up yet, but it should still display on power-up as long as everything is hooked up correctly, right?? I shouldn't have to install drivers or anything initially I thought..

My main concern is the video card because I bought it refurbished from newegg, but everything came with it, including the games, and it looks pristine. I've removed and hooked up everything atleast twice but to no avail..

Any tips or comments would GREATLY be appreciated. thanks

Well since you bios is beeping it prolly means that it is good. In fact i believe 3 solid beeps means no video detected. Make sure that if there is a power input on the videocard it is hooked up to your power supply. Make sure that the cable from the power supply is not one of the fan type power connecters. You can tell if it is a fan power connecter if it only has two wires instead of four, most will be labeled fan only. Since the card was a refurb it could be a bad one, but it doesn't mean that for sure. If you have a regular pci video card try putting that in and see if you can get something to come up so you can see if there is a setting in the bios to enable pci-e devices. It should come already set that way or detect the type of card install on POST, but you never know. If you don't have a reg pci videocard laying around then you could go to a local (mom and pop) type computer shop and see if they have any laying around there that are used and they want to get rid or for cheap. If not contact Newegg. Their customer service is awsome and I'm sure they will work w/you on getting you a replacement card. They don't ask to many questions on returns.

good luck!! Let us know how it turns out for you

Thank you very much, I got it working! Well, your advice was exactly what solved it directly, but it led to it..

I decided to call intel to find out what the beep codes meant and they kept insisting it was a memory error code. I've never installed DDR2 RAM before, but I was pretty sure I had it in all the way because I checked it a few times, but apparently not. I just reinserted it again and pushed it down extra hard, booted it up and I'm good to go! thanks again

good deal!!! Glad to hear its going for you. I never thought to check the RAM!! LOL Looks like im a little rusty on my error codes though. Shame on me :(
