Help please - new build :(

Ok, so I built this Core i7 system that I posted earlier, and everything is completely screwed in and perfect overall. When I start the system though, I never get a video signal and the computer does one long beep, then two short ones immediately after. I have read online that this means there is a video problem.

I am pulling my hair out w/this now. I have the MSI X58 Platinum Crossfire MB, with an Nvidia GTX 280 video card that was just working fine two hours ago. I know I can't do SLI on this board, I don't care about that, but the single card should work just fine. I have used a power supply 8 pin and 6 pin together, no luck. I have used a 6 pin and an 8 pin converter that has 2 six pins (like I did with my last setup), no go. I have switched around the 6/8 pin configs back and forth trying to figure this out, no go. Finally, I've reseated the damn thing about 10 times now and I cannot for the life of me get this damn thing to show a video signal.

Does anyone here have any suggestions? Should I try the 2nd PCI-E 16 slot or would that not work? I really need help asap, I'm getting so damn fried out on troubleshooting this after two hours now. I should be installing Windows

try a different card.
swapping parts > fussing with a possibly messed up card.

I should note, the GTX 280 fan won't even spin at start. I can't remember if this is normal or not, but I cannot tell if the GTX 280 is even getting powered up at all. Only thing I haven't tried is replacing the power supply, but the MB status lights show that the PCI-E bus is fine.

I don't have an extra PCI-E video card.

try the other slot. Never know.
Ill repeat try a different card.
And yeah, the fan should spin up to max for a few seconds on power-up.

Ok I'm super pissed now. I swapped out an old power supply in the place of the new OCZ 700W one, and the system fires right up. What the hell....

I'm grasping at straws at this point trying to figure out why an old 550W would run this, it doesn't even have the 8 pin PCI-E adapter or anything. I'm going to have to bitch to Newegg tomorrow about this one, and pick up a different brand.

My only concern now is how much time I spent on my knees, on carpet, swapping things in and out including my ram. I zapped my laptop once with static, and a doorknob another time in the past hour. I haven't zapped the PC, but I'm still paranoid what sort of effect all the heavy pushing / flexing / etc. had on the video card, mb, etc.

That post was supposed to go up last night, I'm not sure what happened. So the verdict now is that the OCZ 700W power supply was bad. I'm ordering a PC Power and Cooling supply to replace it now.

The memory seems messed up too, specifically in that when I was running last night I could not get stable at 1333, only 1066. I couldn't figure that out, even when I set the voltage to 1.65. At 1066 memory bus it was rock stable, until this morning.

Now this morning, it posts, but it does this short double beep over and over and over. It literally never stops and runs damn sluggish. I pulled the mem sticks, put them in one at a time in a different order, no luck. Maybe this ghetto power supply (550W) is telling me it can't do the job via the mb, I don't know. I think I'm going to leave the system off now until I get the new power supply, newegg also said they'd replace the OCZ 1333 memory.
