i got this 866 mhz cpu and my ram is PC100
so it only rusn at 650mzh 6.5x100
is there a way to change fsb seperately from ram? (the motherboard doesnt allow it (Chaintech 6btm) . Is there any software that can do it? i use Windows XP sp1.
and what is cas on ram? i have it at auto setting (although i use different chips at different speeds)

Most PC100/PC133 SDRAM is CAS 2 or 3. The FSB and memory speeds are not seperatley adjustable. And a 866MHz chip should run at 866MHz not 650MHz. So you should probably adjust something in your BIOS or if need be, switch to PC133 SDRAM instead of PC100. If the system can not run the memory at PC133 speeds, it won't run the processor at 866MHz.

There isn't software to fix this either. It's a hardware problem. You need to correct these issues in the BIOS.

but changing fsb / cpu ratio in bios doesnt effect the 650mhz . Could it be the Super slocket III adapter? i should i still try using PC133 ram

Definitely upgrade the RAM. In it's present configuration you are basically oc'ing the RAM. PC 133 should do the fix. I know multi's are locked so it would probably have something to do with the FSB. PC133 is what you should be using and you can probalby post in the For Sale/Trade section and get some pretty cheap.

EDIT: Also check to make sure there is not a hard jumper on the mobo near the cpu that hardwires the FSB. I know on several AMD boards and older BH-BX series boards you had to manually do the jumper even though it was available in the bios.
