Ok so I saw the review about the Accelero S1 on the forums with great results. I want to get one but before then could anyone tell me how had is it to remove the heatsink on the HD 3870? I have never replaced a VGA cooler before so I wanted to ask around before I get the Accelero S1.

ive got a 3850 with the same type of heatsink/pcb as your 3870. It is very simple... theres a bracket on the back with 4 spring loaded screws. simply take those out with a small screwdriver, and there should be a few more larger screws located on the edges of the pcb. Youll spot them.

unplug the fans power, and it should slip right off.

Note assuming you get the S1 (well any cooler swap for that matter): MAKE SURE you clean the crap out of the ram chips if you want to use the included ramsinks! Many people recommend the Artic Silver cleaning kit (~$6), although Goof Off or some similar product may do the trick as well.

Also use A ceramique thermal paste when you install the new cooler. Less chance of a thermal paste screw up.
