Help Picking a RAID controller?

I am going to upgrading the hard drives in my system soon, and I am wanting to do a RAID5 array for storage, and also have a single raptor running with a PCI-X RAID controller...surfing around on newegg, I found the following:

• Controller: Highpoint RocketRAID 1810A
• Drives:
  • (3x) Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3300831AS
  • (1x) Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB

If anybody has an opinion one way or another on that controller, or would like to suggest to me a good pci-x 4 port sata raid card that can do RAID5/jbod...pleast let me know

Lastly, my question that I have been unable to answer is: Lets say I get the HighPoint card...can I run RAID5 across the three 'cuda's, and just use the raptor standalone (I think JBOD will let me?).

You can do a 3-disk raid 5 and a seperate disk. Also, if you get the 1820 you can have future room (it's 8 ports for something like $30 more), and the 2220 ($80 more) will allow online expansion so you don't have to format and recreate the array.

I think I am going to actually get the 2220, and then get some 250GB samsung spinpoint drives (for the quiet factor) and I can expand my raid array later with the online expansion
