Hey, a friend of mine is looking for a new Digital Camera, price range is about $800 Canadian ^_^

She said it has to be 5mp+, good quality first, features second
good zoom and what not ^_^
what do you guys suggest?

Does he want manual features as well or just point and shoot?

I would go for Canon A95 or Sony DSC T3

I don't have any specific models to suggest, but I would highly recommend you check out the feature search at dpreview.com. You can't ordinarily post links to search results, but it turns out if you use Firefox to convert the form into a GET instead of a POST, it still submits properly . Here are some results including features that I would consider critical. Hope the link works. If not, let me know and I or any of a number of people here can suggest some features that are important that you could use in that comparison search form. As an example, the Nikon Coolpix 5700 appears to meet your criteria (and my feature preferences), though I don't know much about it.

Shoot, I forgot: $800 Canadian is roughly $650 US, if anyone cares. I'm not going to try to edit that search link I posted above, but I don't think that will change the results too much.

Alright, so I finally joined the forum, for I'm the friend with the camera trouble. :)
And so here it is... I'll be needing this camera for some school work as well as for leisure, so manual features would be definitely a plus, compact would be great and around 5 mp. I was shopping around for the past few days and it has been incredibly hard! Some of the cameras I was looking at were the Sony DSC-V1, Canon S60 - although now I heard there are a few problems with that model. I'm really lost.. help! :(

I would say maybe a Canon G5 or even a Digital Rebel(used of course, can be found for around 600-700 US on www.fredmiranda.com/forums).
G5 for its awesome quality and compact-ness(VS. the rebel), rebel for overall versitility, lens choices, and far superior quality.
