ok guys i have my current rig in an Aspire X dreamer.. i like the case but its boring.. u know it nothing more than a plain pre built case.. so i decided i want something a little crazy.. i wanna put my current rig in an old packard bell desktop case.. if anyone has any ideas on how to make this work i need help... my current rig is in the sig...
 
Heh...that sounds like it could be fun. <imagines own rig in parents' old Packard Bell mini-tower with a Pentium 90...>
You'll probably run into a few minor problems, but nothing serious enough to derail the project. The I/O panel and expansion slots will probably be different, and the motherboard standoffs as well.
 
yeah thats the man problem.. im running a very large mobo.. i wil have to actually mount it in the case sideways.. the existing back is not big enough if i keep the PSU where it is which i would like to do.. the cool thing is it already has 2 disc drive bays.. and 2 3.5 bays for my HDD's... the biggest problem is mounting the mobo.. and cutting the metal to make a new side for the case... but if anyone else has already done this or has looked at measurements and sees any other problems lemme know...
 
The PB desktop case I have is quite short maybe 2U at the most, I use it to hold up my 19" monitor. In my case the only way it would work is with onboard video and low profile cards, though your case may be taller??
 
I've done something similar to an old Packard Bell case (early pentium era) and an e-machines case. The PB was some odd riser/backplane arrangment and even after extensive mods could only hold a uATX board. You had to assemble it in a certain order to get everything to fit. I ended up giving it away years ago, so I don't have pics. The e-machines was a little easier to work on, but still required lots of mods. As long as there's enough physical space, anything's possible.
 
That was the LPX form factor. It will be kind of odd mounting an ATX sized board inside.
 
yeah its like 5'' tall by 13'' by 15''... so im not sure... id like to make this work but its lookin like maby a nice desktop case from newegg is prolly gonna be the solutions... im affraid of screwin up my SLI config...after al i did build this 6 months ago and its my life...
