Help overclocking XFX 5870 & 4670

I don't even know where to start with this to begin with. So what program do you use to overclock these, what bios's do I need, what are average clocks, etc? If there is a good guide put together somewhere that you all know of that you could point me to that is fine. :D
 
You could start by pushing both cards to the limits within Catalyst Control Center. Sometimes cards can be pushed a little further. For that, check out MSI Afterburner.
 
Do you have to have an MSI card to use the afterburner program?

Edit: Also, what is a good program to test video card stability?

Furmark is a good program to test gpu stability. I use it on my gx2 and 4670 and it works very well.
 
It appears to use MSI afterburner you have to have an MSI card, this program isn't allowing me to adjust voltage, or fan speed.

To use the voltage control on the MSI Afterburner, start the program, click "Settings", under the "General Tab "you will see "Unlock Voltage Control", make sure there is a check mark in the box to the left of it. Be very CAREFUL with this setting you can easily fry your card if you do not know what you are doing.

In order to adjust the fan speed hit the "Auto" under the "Fan Speed (%)" area and this allows you to change the speed of the fan. Make sure the "Auto" doesn't have the green circle light on to the left of it, otherwise it is still set to auto. Again be careful with this. Do not set the fan speed wicked low if you stressing the card to test stability.

Depending on the card voltage control and fan control may not be possible. The card may not have the proper components in order to change the voltages. Some lower ends cards like the 4670 run at a constant 100% fan all the time and cannot be changed in anyway. That is the case with my 4670.

EDIT: For the record I was able to just do all that on my XFX HD 5770 Crossfire.
 
I've finally got to this, I've tried MSI Afterburner obviously and it didn't work the first time, I'm however about to download it again and try what you said up there. Now, I'm in catalyst control center and I've clicked on the performance tab, and all of the options are greyed out and not usable. Is there something that I'm missing on this? Thank for your help everyone, this is greatly appreciated. :)
 
i am really curious why you are trying to oc a 4670? i assume you use the 5870 for gaming and the 4670 for a second, third or fourth monitor?

You have to "unlock" overclocking in CCC. Click on the little lock icon in that performance tab and accept the disclaimer/warning.

I'm not going to now I guess, lol, I was just wondering if it would even do anything, and yes it's for my third monitor.

Ah, I just tried this and it worked out for me. Awesome, I'm a noob at this obviously. :D
