So i get my e6550, and a tuniq tower, load it up, everything is fine, I bump it up to 450Fsb, boot it up, everything great. 19 idle in core temp 40load 15 min of orthos cpu stress test...here is my question.

Anything higher than that, and my computer doesn't even post. I want to say its my ram, but i have nice D9 chips and have seen them post at 1000mhz before...I had to take out 1 stick because something must have messed it up while installing the cpu, because one stick went bad and need to RMA it, Could it be that? Do I need to wait for the second stick? or is it something else?...

When i turn my computer off by the switch in the back, and restart it, it boots up, but CPU is saying its running at 1.8ghz. Just doesnt post anything past 450. Motherboard is the p5b I have seen that post higher aswell

ok well tell me if you think this is wierd

can do

FSB
450 on stock volts
475 on 1.40v stable but crashes on 1.35
and cant do 480, even if i bump it to 1.55v wont even post

Sounds to me like you need to tweak your settings. What fsb:memory divider are you using? What voltage are you giving your memory? What timings are you using?

My chip does 487mhz fsb with a Thermalright Ultra 120E, 1.35v, memory divider at 5/6, memory timings 5-5-5-12 @ 2.2v

everything else is left alone..

the same as you pretty much, with the memory timings, and voltage, although i cant even post at 487, right now im 8 hours stable on 465 and thats a 1:1 divider

Have the same chip & ram as you. What do you think I can get with stock everything, with super stable results? What settings?

I lied
I thought I had the same memory, but alas I have the Corsair XMS2 Twin2X which has a 4-4-4-12 latency .
Again, in order to have rock solid stabiliy, do you think I would need to change the timings to 5-5-5-15?

his memory is probably that speed to, you have to looosen it to taht
