I have every component for a new computer ready, minus a video card. I got this new Gigabyte board that has both a PCIEx16 slot and an AGP slot on board.

My dilemma is this. My price point is $300, but I dont know what exactly to buy.

If I wait a couple of weeks, I can get a 6600GT for 200 bucks or so, or I can buy a low-end 6800 in the $280-$300 range.

Which card is going to be better? Will a lower end 6800 outperform a 6600GT? As much as I would like a 6800GT, I cannot afford it right now. Will the 6800 outperform the 6600GT significantly, or will I not notice a difference?

I am definetely looking for the best performance that I can get out of $300 bucks, so If theres more cards out there I could be considering, please let me know.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

o_O both this i got to see link plz

hmmm well you can get a 6600GT PCI-e now then get SLI ready mobo latter and add a 2nd 6600GT and get ~6800GT speed out of it or get 6800GT now not sure if the 6800GT has PCI-e part out yet then theres the X800's... :D im not helping am i lol

well the 6800nu would be faster than the 6600gt. http://firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_6600_GT_scaling_performance_pentium4/page9.asp the 6800nu averages about 10-15 fps more than the 6600gt in almost all the benchmarks, but with the 6800nu, u can bump the resolution up a notch. So you decide if 10-15 fps more is worth the extra cash$$. If it was me i would go for the 6800nu, which would fit perfectly in ur budget. I say go for the 6800nu. The BFG one looks really nice at bestbuy ;)

I dunno if money is an issue cant you just get the 6600GT right now? I thought they were out for PCIe? Or you could wait.... I thought that there wasnt much diff between the 6600gt and 6800NU from the [H] review. And even if it is only a few FPS, is that really worth $100? I dunno about that.

Lets just say I want a 6600GT more than a 6800 - mostly cuz of price. But if youre planning to spend $300 anyway, go ahead and get the 6800NU.

btw whats the model of the mobo? I was looking for one and I was having a hard time finding one.

You sure that's the right mobo. The one you linked to only has PCI E slots.

edit: I stand corrected :D

I think the slot covered by the yellow warning label (the G.E.A.R. slot) is the AGP slot.

I'd go with the 6600Gt if you can find it for $200 or below.

Yeah the yellow slot is the GEAR slot..

"Slots: 1x PCI-E x16, 1x G.E.A.R., 2x PCI, 2x PCI-E x1"
