Hello

First time to get into overclocking , i have Q6600 processor with asus maximus x38 , my target is 3.2 Ghz for a start. cooling with zalman 9700 fan

here comes the noob question

i ran prime95 and i had 1 error on the 4th core after 1 hour while other 3 cores ran fine till i stopped test after 3 hours , is there something wrong with my 4th core or is it just that when 4th core went off after error more juice went for the other 3 cores so no errors happened?

Thanks in advance

It usually means your overclock is unstable. Please list your system specs & tell us your bios settings. My first impression tells me you're under volting the processor.

Bios setting i changed
FSB Freq 400
CPU Ratio setting 08.0
CPU Voltage 1.32500v
North Bridge 1.43v

Bios readings
VCORE 1.280v
North bridge 1.456v
CPU PLL 1.632v
DRAM Voltage 1.968v
FSB termination Voltage 1.456v
South bridge voltage 1.072

You should increase your v-core to stabilize your o/c. I would raise it one increment at a time & then run Prime to test its stability. If it fails, re-boot, increase your v-core & test again. If Prime runs a few hours without failing, you are in good shape. Keep an eye on your temps. I would try to stay under 72C.
