I have a Sony LCD TV with 1366x768 connected Via S-Video to a laptop.

while movies play flawlessly (or at least looks like it), texts seem blurry, i tried using a regular VGA cable, and it was about the same.

I am wondering what i can do to make the text quality better w/o purchasing a laptop that can output exactly 1366x768 resolution.

the distance between the TV and the Laptop is quite far, so i am currently using a 75' S video cable. (going through the basement)

thanks in advance.

Its not your laptop, its the TV's max supported resolution. There are ways to override it via Nvidia control panel and such but you have to compensate for overscanning.

please elaborate, i don't mind the overscan, as most movies are not at its full height. but on the 16:9 ratio. I have a ATI card in it and it is rather old. I know Nvidia has a lot better drivers.

There is a 1360 x 768 you may be able to select on the ATI card which is the closest setting to 1366 x 768 that is on the Sony LCD/TV. If not, in the ATI control there should be a setting where you can increase the sharpness. Though, this may not be enough to make a big difference though.

S-video is your problem. It'll look like trash until you use a proper input (component, dvi or hdmi would be ideal, vga as a backup)

I agree that all would look much better with a digital input. However, keep in mind that signal will always deteriorate in such long cables.
