Hi there guys. As you can see, I'm a nOOb. Though I've been around for about a month trying to get some good information on some monitors. I have lots of questions but the main questions I'll ask. I don't really want to tire you guys out so early.

But here it goes...

Basically, I'll be using the monitor for GAMING and DVDs only. I want to get the best picture quality I can for the amount that I'm going to spend. Now as for a budget, I don't want to go past $400 unless it's really necessary to get the extra inches.

But really, it's going to be for me and me only. I don't care about speakers since I have my headphones and speaker setup for it. I was trying to go for 20" - 24". Oh, and I'll be using the VGA cables.

Can you guys help me out with a pretty decent monitor for my 360.

Thanks in advance. Oh, this will be temporary for the 360 since it will be getting a 37" or 42" on Income Tax day. But it will go to my PC when I do get the bigger TV.

:D

Well, you won't be touching a 24" in the $400 range and you're about 2 months too late for me to recommend a Dell 2007FPW. I would say just get a Viewsonic VX2025WM...a lot of people use those for gaming and are happy with it. The Acer F-20 is another good choice (and one I can recommend personally) if you can find one within your budget.

joemana is right, you won't be getting close to a 24" monitor for $400... besides the 2007 a $400 or below monitor will have limited inputs, even the 2007 doesn't have component, so your best bet is to buy the VGA cable for the 360 and get something like a viewsonic VX2025wm which is 20"

The Westinghouse 22" LCM-22W2 is a nice 22" LCD and has the most hookup options of any of the 22" models out there. They are $400 right now at BB though. :( They were cheaper a few weeks ago. You can get them new on Ebay for about $300 + shipping. A 24" 2407 Dell is going to cost you about $600.

Edit: I just saw this SCEPTRE x22wg and it has an HDMI input. It's about time someone did this.

I've done a ton of research on this very topic, and the LG L204WT looks to be an awesome monitor for the 360 (you'll need to use VGA).

I really like that LG monitor. I'm considering getting it. But has anyone used a Sammy 225BW or the Gateway FPD2275W for gaming? They're about $415 or so with taxes and I'm interested in them because of their size and Wide Screen. Any opinions on them?

I'll probably shell out around $450 for a monitor now. I'll raise it to that amount depending on what's out there.

The monitor will be for gaming and movies only till I get something bigger in the next couple of months.

I am using a Westinghouse 22" monitor and it's great. It has composite, component, VGA, DVI, S-Video, and some audio inputs.

Most 22" LCDs are similar in response time, color accuracy, etc. Just make sure you use a DVI cable.

I just picked up a 360 and the microsoft vga cable so I can fire it up on the LCD as well. Currently I'm running it on a 17in sony lcd. So I'm in the market for a widescreen as well.

Will the 360 look good on a resolution of 1680X1050, which is what the LGL204WT is, or on a monitor that has 1920X1200 resolution?

Reading the review for the vga cable at teamxbox: http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews/xbox-360/40/Xbox-360-VGA-HD-AV-Cable/p2/

it says they tried it on a dell monitor that has a resolution same as the LG stated above. Here's a bit of it.

Finally, the start of the test is a DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW, a 20.1 inch wide aspect monitor whose native resolution is 1680x1050. Since none of the resolutions provided by the Xbox 360 matched, I had to choose one of the resolutions available. Two options were suitable: 1280x768 and 1280x1024; the first one because it has the same aspect ratio as this monitor, that is 16:10; and the second one because it has the highest pixel density. Since this monitor will automatically scale up to its native panel resolution, I ended up choosing the latter. 1280x1024 has the higher pixel count which is the best alternative when the original resolution will be scaled to a different one.

The result; I don’t want to leave the seat in front of the DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW. The Xbox 360 looks amazing here, from the dashboard to all the games played. High resolution videos look as good as when played on the desktop computer that is also attached to the monitor as well.

I also read that article and the one where IGN connected the BenQ 20" or something through the VGA using 1280x1024. I'm actually considering the Sammy 22". I saw the 225BW in person and it looked good. I wonder how the 1280x1024 would look on the Sammy since it's also 1680 x 1050. Does anyone have that 360+Sammy 225BW combo?

I have to check out that Westy. I'm going by BB tonight so I'll take a look. Thanks for the heads up.

I ended up getting an L204WT. Someone suggested I try 1280x1024 and then set the screen format to Widescreen. I did this, and it looks awesome. It seems weird to use a 4:3 res and then tell it it's Widescreen, I won't pretend to understand why this works, but I can tell you it does, and it looks great. I can't believe I ever played Gears on an SDTV, you miss out on so much beauty.

If I connect my 360 to the 22" Westinghouse, won't it need HDCP to play HD-DVD (HD-DVD addon connected to my 360)

360 doesn't support HDCP in anyway...

I just picked up a 22" Gateway($399) for my pc but am also gaming on with the 360 until I can get larger. I'm extremly happy with the picture through VGA(component looked no good).

Dont get the Dell 2007FPW, it has banding issues, I use it for my 360 currently, and I'm going to buy a Toshiba HDTV because this thing is pissing me off so much

is that the 1:1 scaling? if not what is that?
"1:1" refers to pixel mapping (each pixel from the source is represented by one pixel on the monitor. "scaling" usually refers to maintaining the aspect ratio of the source, but scaling up to fill as many of the monitor's pixels as possible (ie. making 1280x720 from an xbox 360 fill as much of a 1680x1050 screen as possible).

Thanks. Well to answer his question, yes it has it. Also to add, in info tab on the gateways menu it says the 360 is running at 1920x1080 through vga. Not sure if that matters with all of this.

Im in the same position as the OP. I'm more interested in either the Samsung 225bw (mainly because my experience with theyre support has been unmatched) or a Dell 2007wfp, (what about the chimei 22inch, anygood?). Since I would be hookin it up with the VGA cable, Im moreless just lookin for the best comp monitor that the x360 will look sexy on also.
