I've got a:
MSI p35 Neo2 FR,
Core 2 Duo e4300,
2x 2 Gigs of GSkill DDR2 1000 ( stock specs allow 5-5-5-15 and 2-2.1 volts)
2x EVGA 8800GTS 512
Corsair HX520

Cooling is currently via an externally mounted Coolermaster Aquagate. CPU temp probe is broken atm, and coolermaster won’t answer my e-mails inquiring about a replacement. Res temp at idle and at 2.7GHZ is31c-34c. Fans are loud-ish and I’d like to move to a TRUE or other heatpipe air cooler in the future to silence the system.

I've tried a number of different combinations of settings, most of which end up with left 4 dead shutting down back to my desktop, or prime95 giving me an error on the second core five to ten minutes in. Windows XP pro is stable running non intensive prgrams at the setting shown in pic below.

I have not messed with the southbridge voltage, or the FSB voltage. Haven't looked into what the stock SB voltage is, can't find what the stock FSB voltage is. While the MoBo lets me know what the minimum and maximum possible values are for any given setting, what it considers a dangerous voltage for a CPU or RAM are often common voltages people use for stable and smallish OC’s. The settings pictured are ones that give me an error in prime95 and only allow a few minutes game play. I want this stable.

If this was your system, what would you do? I should be able to pull 3 GHz easily out of this chip. Is upping the FSB voltage the answer? If so, where do I start when upping it, how far do I go? Is my processor just shit?

Please? I don't want to fry my system. I was careful, and inched up fsb and voltage bit by bit to get to this point. The strange thing is, with a 9x multiplier and the fsb at 220 instead of the stock 200, i still get errors on core 2 in prime 95....
I read somewhere that plugged in USB storage devices cause some people's OC to tweak, and perhaps that it, since I have a passport drive hooked up almost constantly.

I'd appreciate any advice you more experienced overclockers could give.

try NB on auto, I got my best results without messing with NB voltage when I ran my E6550 @ 500fsb.

Well, you can try raising your CPU voltage more. That chip is good up until about 1.5V, so you've still got some room to play with there. Same thing with the NB voltage. I'm not really sure what the safe level for that is for the P35 chipset, but you should be good up until at least 1.5V as well. Aside from that, just try messing around with the VTT if you still can't get stable.
